Was chatting to a mate about rough maintenance costs for my CLS55 since I bought it 2.5 years ago (Mar 10) with 9.5k miles on the clock.

1. new parktronic sensor on front by MB dealer, May 10: £170 (paid by warranty compay -- 6 months from supplying non MB dealer)

2. interim oil and oil fiter change, Dec 10: £100

3. D service at main dealer, June 11: £170 (I provided oil)

4. 2 new rear tyres, Aug 11: £500

5. interim oil and oil filter change, Jan 12: £100

6. 4 new tyres (old ones had seen 2 track days, and 2 heavy hoons around Scotland), Sept 12: £1000

7. E service at main dealer, Sept 12: £450 (I provided oil)

8. discs and pads changed all round, Sept 12: £350 (parts from ECP and MB dealer [rear discs]). Original discs and pads lasted about 31k miles, 2 track days and 2 heavy hoons around Scotland. Impressive.

Not that bad, is it?

That is all really reasonable Sean.... now dare I ask how much have you spent on petrol?

Around £23 a week to maintain.

A veritable bargain.

no idea at all ..

but average mpg over 22k miles is 21.

but average mpg over 22k miles is 21.

That's 1,048 gallons = 4,760 litres.

Petrol was about £1.10/litre in March 2010 and £1.40 now. At a crude average of £1.25/ litre, that's £5,950. Shude was close. :thumb:

That's about £46/week, or twice the other maintenance costs. Total is therefore £69/week, or pretty much a tenner a day: excluding tax, insurance and, most significantly, depreciation...

but average mpg over 22k miles is 21.
22000 miles / 21 mpg = 1047.62 gallons
1047.62 gallons = 4762.53 litres
4762.53 litres * £1.3 (my guess at an average fuel price) = £6191.3 total

28p per mile or £206 per month.

My original estimate was based on 22mpg average. Amazing fuel was so cheap only a couple of years ago.

it's written down to zero anyway :D
If you ever want to get rid of it my missus is wanting me to get a four-door and zero is about the price I was hoping to start the negotiations! ;)

My missus has seen Sean's car in the flesh, she thinks its the best looking MB she has ever seen (based purely on the exterior and interior colours of course) :)

it's a keeper. writing down is not the same as market value :D

Our friend has just bought herself a new car, it is a "silver Ford".

I honestly thought that was some sexist joke when people used to say 'she chose it purely on the colour!'

But obviously not?! :D

These costs are cheap compared to what I bombed out on the shed.

I suspect the CLS's depreciation is somewhat steeper ....
