last few days my E brake foot pedal has been very stiff and only clicked down 2 notches - untill yesterday that is , went to put it on and felt something give , i'm guessing a cable or something :dk:. the E brake still works on one side but not the other . does anyone have a diagram of how the system works as so i can diagnose the problem without taking it all apart . car is a 98 230k clk auto
thanks in advance :thumb: - PB

I assume by E brake you are referring to the foot operated parking brake.

When you press the parking brake pedal, cable A is pulled in the direction of the arrow. Lever C pivots around B, pulling cables D. These pull on the individual wheel actuators. In reality the cables D are just one cable, looped around the adjuster slipper E.

This mechanism is located under the rear seat base, you can see it when the cover plate is removed.

It is a bit different on a 208 Stratman.

Remove the rear discs and look at the mechanism. A spring may have snapped.

There's me thinking it's a C Class under the skin.

Apologies. Still, I got a bit of Photoshop practice :thumb:

cheers guys , for some reason i thought it might be connected to the diff ? if its all on the disc then that should be simple enough for me .
