Hi guys & gals, i own & am trying to sell an AC Cobra replica. When i do i am going to buy an Slk. Probably 01 or 02 reg, your thoughts on which one to go for would be appreciated. also anyone want to px (cob up for £13000) get in touch. Thanks

If you like power (354bhp) then this SLK32 is up for sale near me at £10k.

Otherwise, then a SLK320 auto, dark metallic paint & leather would get my vote.

Yeah thanks Ive done the power thing with the cob & Ive always wanted a merc. i just need a weekend car that we can go away in with a bit of practicality. so many out there, i fancy black with the black & cream interior. Just not sure about engine size/reliability/mpg etc.

The two most popular engine choices are the 2.3 supercharged 4-pot and the 3.2 V6. Both give similar performance and mpg (high 20s). It's down to personal preference on how you like the power delivered.

This SLK320 looks nice.

Maybe its just me, but I never really took to the standard R170.

But the R171 is another matter completely. Just superb.

Trouble is, I am now of an age when I would look seriously sad driving one.
I would need either an SL or a CLS to retain a sense of proportion and dignity.
So I guess for the time being I will carry on with my C Class.

Would it be possible to have a link to a photo of the Cobra? Thanks...............

Note to CHOPPERDUDE56.............
It might be worth thinking about a SLK32 as suggested.
Not just because of the engine and power, but more for the styling.
The AMG car has different bodywork and in my opinion looks transformed from the standard car. Much, MUCH better. Well worthy of consideration in my humble opinion.
Good source of info here............

OK! i don't know how to do a thread thingy to the cobra but its the silver Fierro factory one on Pistonheads. I know the boot space is restricted by the roof when its down, so we will either have to travel to our destination with the roof up, or ill have to tell "er indoors" to pack light! :) An AMG 320 would be nice, but thin on the ground. was thinking about adding BRABUS spoiler and such, changing wheels etc, making it my own, never left any car Ive had as standard. All started back in the 70s with my "jacked up" Mk1 Capri...aah happy days.

Where are you from?
Roughly what's your budget?
I'm sure there are plenty of members happy to help you spend your money?

Have you checked that the boot size on the SLK is OK for you (esp. with roof down)?

It's amazing just how much you can get into the boot of an SLK, even with the boot down.

The trick is to pack several small soft-sided bags, which you can arrange to fill every nook and cranny, rather than one large suitcase.

If you're flying, put your stuff in carrier bags / bin bags and place in the boot, and take 1 or 2 larger empty soft bags... these will happily go behind the seats... when you get to the airport put all the smaller bags into the larger ones, then you only have 1 item of hold baggage each.

Record my vote for the supercharged 2.3 litre 4 cylinder engine... as the engine is lighter the car is marginally better balanced front to rear. Other forumites no doubt will disagree.......

You will notice one particular difference with an SLK..... the rear wheels usually stay behind the front ones..... :o

I am in Essex, & a budget of £8000 to £10,000. have to wait for cob to sell though, i shouldn't keep looking at slk`s its so frustrating.

I am opposite in my views the R170 (which I still have and coming up in its 11th year since I bought it) is still a better looking car than the R171, having owned one for 4 years it really did nothing for me, yes one was a 4 pot 2.3 and the other a 350 V6 but certain cars have it and others do not, yes the R170 road like a skateboard and the R171 actually had a suspension but one can forgive all the little faults if its true love.

Not sure how to post photos, but its Magma red with Brabus body kit and superb Brabus wheels, plain black interior at the moment but i intend to "Bling" it up in the future :thumb:

Easy to post photos........
Simply choose the GO ADVANCED reply option and then go down to the Additional Options sections below. Click on Attach files and Manage Attachments......
All pretty straightforward.
Just keep the file size reasonable.
I think the maximum number of photos you can upload per post is 3.

Thanks, haven't got car yet having service/mot/valet done but these are pics from dealer website.

I think one of the first things I would want to do is find out whether you can get clear lens headlamps. That would help lift the front end and give it a more modern look.
I would leave the wheels, they look fine as-is.
And if you have deep pockets and it doesn't already have it fitted, then adding COMAND with iPod connectivity would be a nice addition. Although some may argue against.
Dont over-bling the car. Mercedes dont look good when subjected to too much "personalisation".
Just my opinion of course.
