Hello

My wifes audio 10 in her A class has now given up the ghost (the cd player part) and for ease I would like just to swap it with another, I'm even thinking swap mine into hers and upgrade mine :)

Anyway I've seen a few on flea bay go for £100 - £150 which seems high for quite an old radio now?

I like the oem look though and have seen some without codes?

would I need to take it to Mercedes to get a new code and if so is this pricey?

Thanks

in my experience althogh no expert,if it has no code then leave well alone ( probably nicked).

These units do command a good price,I had the same dilema ,bought one and when I sold the car put the ol;d back and sold the oe on flea bay.The buyer claimed it was faulty,Now I know why I hate e-Bay(con merchants site)

Ahem. I have an Audio 10 with original Mercedes code card too looking for a new home :D

When i tried to get the code for my Audio 10 from MB in Exeter i was told that the car would need to be put on Star for this to be obtained as not on the central computer. I know that other forum members have had more success with other MB outlets so i suppose it depends how helpful they want to be. I have also been told that putting on Star would not find the radio code so just seems a way of screwing money out of their customers.

I've never done it, but supposedly most radios can be decoded, and as far as I can tell, the software needed to do it is very expensive - if you look in autotrader there's companies willing to do it.
You can buy cds on ebay that claim to just use the model number and serial number to locate the correct factory code... useless if the radio has been recoded before I suppose.
I've spoken to a proper Becker dealer in Stockport about getting a secondhand Becker, and it seems the only way to decode those is for them to get in contact with Becker in germany, who will get the correct code at a cost of £65.
I'd go down that route, using a proper approved dealer, but there again, if it's possibly stolen and bought untested, chances are it'll be knackered/blown anyway - having seen the quality of the average thief's radio removal technique twice, beware!

Audio 10 cd

Beware as well that not all Audio 10 CDs are Becker units. Some are made by Alpine. The serial number identifies which is which. Clearly it's no use asking Becker for info about an Alpine unit.

I bought an APS30 unit from eBay.
Didn't come with a code card but at the time, there was a dicussion forum on eBay where a group of people would get the code for you (for free). You simple gave them the model number and serial number and they replied with a code that should work for your unit.
Just had a quick look and it seems that particular discussion has been removed (suppose you can see why).
But anyway, the point is, you can get the code and it's not a case of only the manufacturer can do it.

There are programs out there that can work out the code. After all, the code is simply calculated from the model number and serial number (some how).

Try a google search for radio codes and see what it throws up.

Just quote the serial number to your dealers parts dept and the code is on their system. Starts with AL....... etc.

Is there a code for Audio 20?

I changed the battery once but it didn't ask for the code when switched it back on again, I don't want a surprise though.

Can I read it via DAS?

MB dealer can also get it from the reg of the car - if it was the original unit of course. Whoever was told that the car needed to go on a star is having their leg or something else pulled.

Hi,
I believe the later Audio 10's (Becker version I believe) needed to be coded too the car, the units fitted to 202's, 210's 208's should only require the correct 5 figure code to be inputted.
