coil springs

hi all
just been for an mot and it has failed
mostly just silly things but and theres always a but
it has failed on a cracked nearside rear coil spring
can anyone help me with this or point me in the right direction

MLs are known for this I believe. Big heavy vehicle springs are under a lot of strain. Unfortunately I think Mercedes only supply rears as a combined SPRING/STRUT unit which if you replace both sides (recommended) ain't cheap. Seems a lot for a spring to me, one for wifes W203 was just under £50 genuine.
