Working fine for me :)

Looks nice, but I think it could be a bit distracting in use. mind you, I have changed my cluster to all blue led lights :)

Worked for me.............
Very Barry and not for me..............

Just replied to the other thread then spotted the one people are using! Lexus already do this - the ring of light inside the tacho goes amber then to red. Likewise the speedo goes amber at about 75mph and red at 100mph.

Why?

Just because it can be done, doesnt mean it should be.

Seems a total load of bo****ks to me and about on par with drainpipe exhausts..............

But each to his own.....................................

Aftermarket tachos have been available like this for years, i reckon the manufacturers are now starting to aim cars at the lads who were fitting them along with body kits, blue glowing screen washers and spinner wheeltrims and have grown up a bit an can now afford these cars, just looks chavvy i think and serves no usefull purpose.

On the lexus speedo it's moderately useful - effectively gives a warning light if your speed has drifted up a bit.

I had a Saab 9-5 and when you hit the night button all lights went out and the speedo only lit to (I think) around 70/80 so when you approached that speed the rest lit up...it made me want to go to that level just to get the light to light up...sad or what..:eek:

Point is these dials make you want to light them up..:D

Is the tacho colour change used as part of an economy meter, or just as a high revs warning.?

It would be good if it went green under good economy driving though to red for poor economy. That would help drivers that were interested in achieving good economy, but don't know how to drive for the best.

It goes amber at about 4000rpm, then red at the redline - so I guess it could be used either way though you would have to have a modicum of mechanical sympathy/undertsanding to interpret it.

If they are fixed points irrespective of load then it is just an indication of revs, but if the amber point varies then it could be an economy indicator.

Is it not covered in the manual.?

I once had a ford escort that when you braked, the headlights came on, and when you indicated, the brake lights flashed.
You dont get that on no posh Lexus !!

I'll look when I get a mo - it's my wife's car so I only get limited access to it!!

I would use it for fuel guages. Mercedes already have it for Black-series clusters. The middle of the cluster goes bright red when it is time to shift up a gear.

Visual cues are extremely important because roads are very busy places with high workloads. IN Australia they are chaotic with hundreds of street signs every several kilometres advising you of speeds, conditions, rules, names and locations. I literally mean hundreds.

Any visual cue which means something sensible is a desireable one. I personally have trouble reading the cluster at 6000rpm. 1.5G and 100 mph. My eyeballs are being affected so badly by vibration that I cant always read the numbers.

shift light on the tacho and a vacumm gauge would sort out when you've hit max revs and how to drive economically much better than a flashing multicoloured xmas tree dashboard, having said that i do want a Jaguar XFr just because of the dash moving parts of itself about and the heartbeat strater button. :D

Time to loosen the seatbelt and install softer springs..

Most people couldn't interpret the information, so a 'silly' light is a good idea as it just says 'change up, or change down' now.!

Our ancient Fiat had this as part of the digital dash, either green or amber light.
It used a combination of the revs and vacuum to decide the changeover point.
