Hello all, this is my first post and I have a question about the Comand 2 set up in my 2003 W209 3.2 Avantgarde. I'm pretty sure that the Comand was installed by a previous owner and I have two problems (as far as I know) with it and I wonder if anybody can advise me.
Firstly I cannot set the time either on the Comand or the dash clock. The Comand clock only allows adjustment by thirty minutes and the dash clock is one hour fast. There is no option to set the dash clock on the car display menu.
The other problem is with the sat nav, it seems to know roughly where I am but once I start driving it starts to flip around like it has lost the location.
To be honest the Comand system seems a bit crap so if I can't easily fix these annoyances I will probably swap it out for the standard radio/cd head.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

With regards the clock, as far as I know the clock in the instrument cluster takes the time from COMAND, that takes the time from the GPS satellites. There might be an option in COMAND menus or the instrument cluster menus to change the time form Automatic to Manual, but I am not sure.

Regarding COMAND losing it's position, the most likely cause if faulty GPS antenna, or a badly located antenna if COMAND was a retrofit. Check the number of satellites it can see. Normally it will see around 3-4 as minimum at all times.

And yes, COMAND NTG2 is a bit old now, plus in order to keep it up-to-date you'll need to fork out for a Maps DVD which isn't cheap. But it does have the original look and feel, plus it works with instrument cluster.

Comand 2 is even older than NTG2! It is a very early system. You need to set the timezone in the SYS settings. The time change by 30 mins is correct as the actual time is taken from GPS and then you set the region in the settings. Your clock in the dashboard will then correct itself.

Once you have set the time, then go through the LOCATION and CALIBRATION settings in the SYS menu. Location simply asks you to set precisely where you are so park (safely) near a junction and the run through the LOCATION stuff. Then set the Calibration with the exact rear wheel size(s). to get the Comand to accept a setting press and hold in the right knob until you hear a beep.
