Hi all,

Went to my new local dealer on Monday and they offered me a free swap of my Comand V5.0 DVD to V5.1 (for W211).

It will take a week or two to arrive, but I just wondered if anyone could tell me what the differences are?

Many thanks.

5.1 fixes the software errors in 5.0. Other than that there is no substantive difference. Both give you TMC. Nice that they are offering to do it.

I had mine replaced and could not find anything of interest.

These DVD's cover the whole of Europe so trying to find updates will never be easy. There was a slight stability issue with version 5, hence the free replacement.

I'm lead to believe version 6 is now available which begs the question why are you being offered an out of date replacement?

Good luck,
John

What were the software errors? I've been using V5.0 in UK & France for the last 15 months or so with no problems...

I think they're offering it for free precisely because V6.0 is available, at a price!

No, mine was replaced free of charge months ago.

The was a recall of the 5.0 disks (although it took a long time for some dealers to realise they couldn't sell us both!)

I'm not sure the facts behind the release of 5.1 have ever been properly explained & there is certainly no chance of me doing this.

It did seem there was a conflict somewhere between the 5.0 firmware update on the DVD player in the boot and the software in the COMAND headunit. The upshot of which was, apparently, depending on which combination of exisiting firmware was already installed the mapping software would sometimes place the car on the wrong side of the road or the system would ocassionally stop and need to be manually restarted.

The symptoms varied (and, I suspect personally, related to how well the firmware updates were being applied)

Whatever the true reason, MB released 5.1 as a fix. If any of the data was updated in between that was probably more co-incidence thn any intended improvement.

I can't recall the precise frequency but NAVTEQ supply Mercedes-Benz with regular mapping updates, it is then down to Merecedes to decide how often they fetch out upgrades.

Regards,
John
