HI all,

I have been driving my MB for over a week now but the Sat Nav doesn't initiate first time, it tells me to insert a Navi-CD. After a few attempts at reading the disk, it will suddenly work.

I have heard that this is a common problem and that you can upgrade the CDRom, does anyone have any information on this?

Many thanks

PS Its a Command 2.0 CD version

The head may just need cleaning, there are threads already on the forum about this, please search.

My comand unit did the same thing, I bought another complete unit and swapped the head over, but I will be using the other unit soon so a spare was needed :)

If all-else fails a good car audio/ICE shop may be able to clean or repair the unit.

Have you checked the condition of the actual disc, may be scuffed or have some mark on it?

You could try cloning the CD on your PC and seeing if the copy works any better, if it copies but is no better in the unit then you will have eliminated the disc from the equation. If the disc doesn't copy on the PC then it is probably the disc at fault.

If the drive is faulty then updating the CD Rom as you suggested won't help.

Before I get yelled at, I'm sure one legitimate back up copy is legal !

Mike
