E-class C207 facelift coupe 2013
Hi I have a 2013 C207 E class coupe with Comand 4.7 which has started to error out.

Initially the sat nav wont load ( was working fine ) and has said "map data does not match comand Please insert map data DVD with the correct map material. I have tried a reset and no joy there, I have also noticed that some of the music on the hard drive has "disappeared". I suspect as its effectively a 7 year old hard drive this is likely to be the issue and that a possible solution is a replacement and reload. Where to start. The drive installed is a MK1060GSC which is I believe an automotive grade HDD which is no longer made. Ideally I dont want to ebay and get another 6 year old drive as this kind of defeats the point as HDD only last a certain time. I have read that possibly an SSD might be the solution. Any help appreciated. The comand unit has been plugged into smart and no error codes are present. Does anyone have any suggestions on next steps? Cheers

The people who can fix this for you are forum-sponsors Comand UK - www.comandonline.co.uk - but they are in the SE so you'll need to travel.

Yes you can use an SSD, but you'll need to get a good image of the old HDD first. If it is too far gone, then you are into the murky world of downloading pirated images of NTG4.7 HDDs from file-sharing websites... and you'll need to hack the anti-theft protection and the maps PIN - saying that it is not ideal will be an understatement.

I suggest that you talk to Comand UK, and be prepared to travel. It's well worth it.

Of course you could give-up on COMAND and fit an Android-based unit instead, but that's for a different thread.

Thanks for the advice, Ideally would prefer someone up north if there is anyone. Main thing is diagnosis to as I dont want to sort the drive out and then find out its some other issue. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. Cheers

It does look like a hard drive issue. You cannot just put another drive in. They are locked to a serial number of the unit and bios protected. Replacement drive is about £600 fitted with maps etc.

Yes, the HDD is shoot, I was lucky just got mine HU replacement under warrenty, car was nearly 5 years old, mercedes design to put a HDD into its Headunit as a time bomb for maintainance trap !!!
The HU was unable to search MP3 and stuck in the "please wait" forever then freeze up and needed reboot randomly.
DIY for SSD step by step is appreciated if available.
