For some time I have been trying to find out how to replace the main control knobs on my Comand and have met with (financially) unsurmountable obstacles.
Cleaning the kettle today with Brasso wadding I noticed that it cleaned up the rubber/plastic parts a treat
With my Comand looking and feeling pretty manky I used the wadding on the control knobs and they came up a just fine!
It would seem that the knob had not deteriorated but had over the 5 years just got " finger dirty".:(
For those of you with a similar problem this may be a better and easier solution than replacement

LOL Im more shocked you clean your kettle with brasso.
We give it a quick wipe down while pouring a nice cup of rosie.

But if you like to buff your knob with brasso far be it from me to complain.

you should always clean your knob when commanded !!

:D  You just know that certain words are going to provoke the schoolboy humour on this particular MB forum!
