Hi all, I've got a 58 plate W164 ML320 with a comand ntg2.5 system in it which has been playing up.
The symptom is that it is stuck in a cycle of endless rebooting where it gets as far as bring up the MB logo then after a minute clicks off and starts up again. I've been to my local MB specialist who found that it wouldn't even connect to the STAR machine and they said that I should replace the comand system for the princely sum of £2000. Given the cost and the fact that I was planning on replacing the car in the next 6 months due to ULEZ I have decided to do it myself as it looks like a trivial job so I have been searching for a suitable used system to buy and swap in - here's where my question comes in.
There seem to be a lot of different mercedes part codes (ZB numbers) for what outwardly looks like the same comand ntg2.5 system and I was wondering if anyone knew of some way for me to figure out which ones were compatible. For example, my system is A 164 870 60 94 and I have found an unlocked replacement unit for sale with the code A 164 906 20 00. Both units have the same "model number" BZ9831 but their assembly dates are about 1 year apart (my system being the older one).
I've tried googling the part numbers but it mostly just seems to bring up more ebay listings!
Any info anyone can provide would be most appreciated, thanks!
