2022 GLC 300 estate- replaced 2018 Gle 43 AMG Night - replaced previous 2015 E63 AMG
W212 E63 with ntg5 comand ( btw thx to Alfie for confirming comand model)

Is it possible to mute comand by a third party connection such as one which connects to a standard ground stereo mute cable which some car audio systems have?

I have a cheetah c550 gps speed camera locator hard wired & tucked away in the ashtray . I dont normally have audio playing but last night I did on 2 hr trip and the cheetah alerts were barely audible above the radio. They do a stereo mute lead but I'm not sure if it will work with comand. The only other option is to add a small extension speaker from the cheetah headphone socket to somewhere near the rear view mirror. Tia

Yup, Pin 9 on the quadlock. May well have a blue/white wire in there already as the emergency call system mutes the stereo if it wants to

You need to be sure that the device you are adding doesn't switch between ground and 12v, it switches between "floating" and "mute" - i.e when it is not muted you need to be able to connect it to ground and 12v without blowing a fuse. (Otherwise you may mess up the emergency call mute)

Cheers

Thanks Richard
The car has the emergency call system, so is it ok to splice into the wire already there on pin 9?

Also, how do i remove the head unit? Any special release/ pulling tools needed?

a) Look on youtube for video, easiest with pulling hooks though.

b) I don't know whether the circuit from the ecall system switches between 12v and ground - i.e if you connect another device you need to make sure you don't cause a short circuit when either ecall tries to mute or the device tries to mute. I have told you how to check in last post. CHeck the ecall and the new device, if OK, you can connect the wires together.

Hi Richard

Thanks for the info. How do I test the ecall? Just press the SOS button , check for voltage on pin 9 then abort the call? If I do blow a fuse which one would that be & where is it located. Tia

Mute is normally done by grounding that lead (and it is pulled to 12v with a resistor in the head unit). What I don't know for sure is whether they've done something funny on the e-Call unit and make it 12v actively fed, then grounded when it wants mute. I doubt they did something non standard.

The test I said to do was to check that is true on what you are adding.

If it works when you plug it together (after doing that test) then e-call will still work. If it doesn't work, then I it could blow a fuse - but you'll have to check the fuse map to find which fuse and where
