COMAND plays dvds ?

I have just brought a 57 reg E280CDI with a nice selection of toys (boys must have there toys). Inside i have a comand system which plays cds radio & satnav .Amongst the manuals was a dvd version of the car/comand manual.I tried the disc as instructed in the slot in comand cd slot, waited a few seconds & up pooped a disc error tried afew more times plus a film dvd (all work on the house dvd player). I tried various Merc garages to try find out if my version of the comand plays dvds, some say yes and will have to book it in to carryout a check & repair any problem or no not on this version you need a multi-media version ?. So do all Comands play dvds or has disk put put the car by mistake
By the way how oftern do they produce a new satnav disc.i believe the latest is version 12 released in October this year.

I had a 59 reg E250CDI it played dvds very nicely

The NTG1 system does play dvds. Try a region 2 dvd movie. See NTG1: COMAND - All about COMAND

It should do, I had a 57 CLS which had the same model COMAND and played the DVD manual and regular DVD. I don't think they would have provided a DVD manual if the car would not play it.

It finally did play a dvd (James Bond) long another enough for me to take some pictures before the dvd error sign appeared again.It is now booked in with Mercedes & hopefully a dvd will be playing the next Im stuck on the M25!.
