COMAND - Radio odd Behaviour

The COMAND units behave differently between my CLS and CLK.

In the CLS when the radio station is displayed inside the speedo, the up/down arrow buttons on the steering wheel scroll through the radio preset stations.

In the CLK when the radio station is displayed inside the speedo, the up/down arrows buttons on the steering wheel scroll to the next station and ignore the presets stations.

I have checked the manual, googled and tried all the settings I can find!

I know that visually both units look a little different, but electronically they look identical in every way.

Anyone got any ideas to get the CLK to scroll through the presets only?

I know what you mean, and I'm pretty sure there was an option to change this in one of the cluster menus on my old W208.
But now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing a similar setting in either my W220 or S211.
Maybe this is a CLK thing?

I believe this is model year specific. My W211 did not have the option to scroll pre-sets at all (instead it stepped frequencies up and down). I believe latest W211s were different and my W210 had a cluster menu where I could select either way (if I remember right). Present cars seem to step pre-sets.

Edited: a bit of duplicated info, I was typing while mr. shr had already replied.

This is an option on my 2000 W215, to select station by Memory Scan or Frequency Scan.

There is an option in the settings somewhere. There is on my W203 at least so I would guess its available on all models.

I've done that mistake too, guessing on the basis how other MBs work is not always good. I don't know about the exact model in question but not all MBs have the setting or any other option to select preset stations.

On the very latest models the feature is back but there is no setting. Instead you scroll through presets by briefly pressing the steering wheel button. A long press would instead make the radio step to the next station (or frequency if RDS is not available).

I have tried the button thing, holding it down for a long press and just a short press, but both just move it to the next station frequency. The display does signify if it hits a preset by showing the preset number.

Think it may just be the way it is.

Am I the only one who barely uses the steering wheel buttons? Surely it's less distracting to just bonk the one button on the radio than mess around with buried menus and having to watch what the cluster display is doing! :)

As nibbo, it's a setting under the cluster "Settings" menu

Oh, in the cluster settings rather than COMAND settings?

I will have a look.

Under Individual settings in my cluster display.

Station Search using:
+ Frequency
- Memory.

Thanks guys, I have found it!

Under the 'vehicle settings' in the menu - not really a logical place to look but thanks for the heads-up.
