I've searched through other similar threads about this but just end up more confused each time. I would greatly appreciate the help of others with this question.

I recently bought a W211 MY09 which is fitted with Audio20. (bluetooth built-in)

I would like to cost an upgrade to COMAND but not sure of parts I would require. I'm hopeful that this model is capable of the all in one unit and so may only require a GPS antenna as an extra. Also following installation does it require coding on STAR?

Any help or pointers much appreciated.

This is the correct unit and it is almost plug and play.

You will need some additional connectors - see the section on comandonline website -.

Coding is necessary only to make the nav info come up on the dash cluster.

Thanks for reply.

Would these additional connectors be the following?

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: Genuine MB GPS Antenna for DVD and Hard Disk COMAND APS

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: W211/W219/R171 E/CLS/SLK Audio-20-CD to COMAND NTG2.5 conversion set for cars with phone

You don't need the conversion set.

You need the GPS antenna (buy the genuine Mercedes one, but the cheaper of the two), and the FM/AM antenna splitter.

Coding is necessary to
a) enable the navigation in the display
b) Configure the COMAND correctly. If incorrectly configured (because last car had different audio options), you may
i) get no sound
ii) some functions may not work
iii) The later COMANDs will realise they are in the wrong car and lock up (displaying a message)

As your car is a MY09, Mercedes diagnostic system understands a NTG2.5 can be fitted, so you get the datacard updated to show the Audio-20 has been removed, and COMAND fitted, and then the diagnostic system will code the COMAND correctly

Cheers

You wouldnt need the additional connectors as your car is already MY09.

Edit: Richard beat me to it.

As Richard mentioned ask them to update the datacard first to change the Audio 20 to Comand NTG2.5 so the cluster can then be correctly SCN coded.

Or if you pop down to Alfie / Richard in Lightwater, Surrey they can do it all for you.

Should all the coding work be done after installing hardware or is anything required prior to removal of Audio20?

Separate question here but do the MY09 Audio20 units have any value or should I just keep it?

Codings done after.

Audio 20 units with bluetooth fetch from £150 upwards on ebay.

Thanks everybody for that info.

Time to go shopping!
