MERCEDES C-CLASS
Hi All -

I have a new Merc and I'm loving it.

I find the COMAND system useful as a whole, varied BUT not entirely user-intuitive in every day use.

I have a long list of songs that I like to scan in one folder. When I select the song, but then jog back to the folder, it ALWAYS goes back to the top of the list to #/A choice, and not say, M, or whatever I was at for the previous song. I know you can skip by letter buttons on the dash, but I have dozens of songs still under certain letters. I just wondered if there was a means of getting COMAND to return to the last song played in the list automatically?

Hope this makes sense... obviously it is not an issue if on random, but is a pain on normal play sequence mode...

Any help appreciated. (Also, can the COMAND system be upgraded software-wise in a 2013 model, or are you generally stuck with the style/system as you have it at the point in time of purchasing the car)?

Thanks!

Stu

I don't know the answer tp the first part, but if your car was made in early 2013 it will have COMAND NTG4.5 Gen2, if it was made in late 2013 (and onwards) then it will have COMAND NTG4.5 Gen3, aka NTG4.7.

In either case the firmware can be updated at the dealer, or by a specialist such as www.comand.co.uk.

If you go into Engineering Mode (aka 'Hidden Menu') in COMAND you will be able to see the model you have and the firmware version installed.

Said that, the latest firmware was released around 2016, becuase MB usually stop releasing firmware update shortly after the unit is out of production (COMAND NTG4.5/4.7 was available on some new cars up to early 2016).

In terms of appearance, your 2013 car should already have the newer grey menus with red lines (as opposed to earlier cars that had the light brown / yellow menus), in which case there will be no visual differences after updating the firmware.

But the firmware update is still recommend due to bug fixes.
