Comand Update from 2004 - worth it?

Its free....................once you have forked out for the COMAND and its disk.
All COMAND units will give you full TMC functionality providing the software disk version you are using has it. There are other threads which give this information......

See post number 4........................

I am totally unfamiliar with other portable systems such as TomTom. Others will have to advise.

Yes it's free for COMAND users (well you pay enough for the COMAND!!!) and no TT users don't have access, without subscription anyway.

It depends on the navigation disc version whether you have it or not but I'm not sure if all units are compatible. Richard would know...

edit... VT is a faster typist than me.. :) :)

After reading this , i feel certain I need to upgrade both my car and my wife's.
Wifes is a 2002 W209 with full command running (i think) ver 4 and tonight - given that i was in her car and the bl**dy M3 was so choked due to the roadworks , I had a fiddle with the command and noticed a setting for TMC and dynamic route guidance, btu to my sorrow these are 'greyed-out' and not available for selection.
If I upgrade (to whichever suitable latest version will these become functional?

Also I have a 2005 W209 with APS- 50 (i think ) running V4. something too .

Is there an upgrade for this too?

Is there a way I can get the model, version to display on the screen of either of these without having to remove trim etc?

Now eager to upgrade. (Alfie if you read this You will get my cash , i am sure :-)

Eject the disk - the version number is printed on it.

Providing the version you upgrade to has TMC information on it, then yes, these will become fully functional and you will have access to TMC with full DRG.

Refer to the link in post number 21, above. This lists all the COMAND disks and their versions.

The CD in my unit is Version4.
Strangely the lady in my dashboard became horribly confused this morning and directed (or tried to ) me completely in the wrong direction.

Thois only happened after i had ejected the disk this morning - and replaced it of course.
Should I reboot it or something?

I agree it is 'free' but it is typical of the saying,

"Nothing is free"

It took a year or so to activate TMC on our 211 systems as Mercedes-Benz were slowing in buying the licence that would allow them to actually use the system, so whilst it is 'free' to the ehnd user, Mercedes-Benz has paid for the rights to use this excellent system :)

Version 9.. Looks like we will have to update again :)

Hence my comment about the cost of the COMAND :o

P.S. Good to see you back John :)
