COMAND upgrade - worth it? And where do I get a decent satnav CD?

Hi

I have a 1999 S430 (new shape), but the COMAND system is not the latest - MB have quoted me several hundred pounds to update the firmware...

I have 2 questions...

1. What does updating the firmware give me? Postcode search on satnav? SMS on phone, etc?

2. Does anyone know anywhere *besides* MB where I can get COMAND updated?

On another subject - anyone any idea where I can get the latest CD for the Satnav - I was told to get the travel pilot dx "7 612 160 046" from Blaupunkt, but their site says this only works for S Classes >09.99, and mine is 03.99

Any ideas?

www.navshop.co.uk have a good selection of the tele atlas DX CDs. They have just released the latest update - UK 2004.

As for firmware upgrade - would have thought the dealer would be able to do this, although it may be possible to obtain an upgrade CD somewhere - not sure exactly what the updates would give you.

hi shaun the unit should be upgreadable by the dealer, takes approx 40 mins, this will then give the sms features, and also alolow you to use dx disc as per navshop.

there are some units that will not take a update, but no harm in trying cant belive they want a couple of hundred to so it

you can try ebay, people on there sometimes sell new oem disc, you want the 2001 update.

follow the instructions closely and away you go

I've upgraded roughly 10 COMANDs now and only one went wrong. If you want the part number for the upgrade disk, let me know and i'll dig it out.
