COMAND USB Storage problem

I thought so that's better to know that. I'm just trying to find out where it says it in the manual so I can refer them to it. I also specifically remember the update follows the car not the owner so therefore they can't say I'm not entitled to the upgrade as I just bought the car.

Absolutely correct, both occasions that I had mine done, it took best part of a day but like I say contact MB themselves (who'll respond quickly) and they can also give you the firmware version.

Yup, that car has the 81P "comand with navigation update" option. But its over 3 years old now (delivery date 30/11/2011) so they won't be able to generate free map PIN codes anymore. (unless it hung around the dealership for a while and wasn't registered for a couple of months and I can't see that information)

The trouble is that firmware and map updates take ages, use up a bay, a diagnostic machine, a stable power source and a technician checking regularly. There is also risk of component failure during firmware update (which on an out of warranty car is the owner's problem) and sometimes you have to restart map updates.

So dealers don't really like doing firmware updates, and will charge ££ for firmware and maps when out of warranty.

If you have a Mercedes extended warranty you should be able to persuade them to at least try updating the firmware as they should get paid by MB for the work.

Cheers
Richard

thanks for checking that.

In your experience though would the firmware update fix the problem with the problem I am having with the system not picking up all the songs on the hard drive?

Also is there a changelog for the firmware updates?

I think that you'll just have to live with its limitations, it's obsolete now so I can't see much firmware development going on.

yeah i reckon ill have to but it would be nice to know what the firmware updates consist of and whether it would be worth getting the firmware upgrade anyway when i get it serviced next.

There has been lots of NTG4.5 firmware updates since that car was new, and it is still mostly current product (the latest 4.5 system which is known as 4.7 is being phased out for NTG5 as NTG4.5 models get facelifted / replaced). Its quite likely that no firmware updates have ever been done.

There is no public list of fixes. Often when you are installing firmware Star Diagnosis gives you a list of "problems" fixed by the firmware with checkboxes for you to report why the car was in.

Therefore, the best thing is to get it updated to latest firmware and see if that fixes it !

Richard

ps, I think the last NTG4.5 firmware was early 2014.

So from the information you provided in your first post it does say my car needs a firmware update?

I'm waiting on Mercedes to get back to me so I'll see what they say and then I'll ask them how much it would cost for the update.

just out of curiosity, would anyone know when the last firmware update was released for the COMAND NTG4.5 system?

sorry to bring up such an old thread. Did we get to the bottom of this.

i have a 59 plate w204 c class and just connected a usb drive (64gb) to it and its showing as not recognised.

/is there a way i check my firmware

No, I went back to mercedes with my last service and they said my firmware was fully up to date.

So mine still sits the same way as when i posted this thread
