Hi, I have problems with my command etc. Bought the car three weeks ago. The command unit will turn on for 10 - 12 seconds then turn off. Nothing else happens. Took it to mercedes, they said it was a faulty command processor (cost to repair £3200 - what a joke). Fitted a 2nd hand command HU from ebay, and its still doing the same. Have tried all the DIY like rebooting everything. Anyone had a similar problem. The screen shows the merc logo for 10 - 12 seconds then shuts down - nothing is working.

Give these guys a call. They are well known on here and very highly recommended. They will sort you out. Also search the forums, there are many threads with various COMAND problems.

Welcome to the forum by the way. :)

hi check in boot on nearside behind trim panel sitting on top of wheel arch loacated is audio gateway module check voltage supply unplug optic cable then switch on command optics should light up red where in the uk are you

Could also be worth checking the wake-up lines , although the system will wake up opticaly if no ele signal is recived , but could still worth checking . There will be a multi block connector in the wire gutter beside the passenger front seat , all the wires will be pink for the wake-up connector , check that the top is pluged in fully .

The symptoms you have here mean that one of the items on the fibre optic bus has broken (or the bus itself, unlikely though).

It could be any of the following
COMAND (most unlikely of all, so you got bad advice)
Navigation Processor
Audio-Gateway / HK amp
Phone controller
Linguatronic / Microphone controller
CD changer
- or a fibre break
- or a wakeup issue (pink wires mentioned above)

The only way of diagnosing this is to either use Star Diagnosis, or to bypass each unit and see which has seemingly failed.

Most MB dealers seem to find this process very difficult - it is not. They seem to work by replacing parts at great expense.

I keep on meaning to add a tool to the comandonline site which is a fibre loop to make bypassing easy

Ive seen
a) Nav processor break because it has got wet from a jet wash of the rear bumper
b) failed AGW
c) failed phone controller
recently.

Where in the country are you.

Richard

command / NAV

Hi, thanks for all your kind response. I have taken it to a Merc dealer. They did a star test on it, found that the NAV unit in the boot is defective, need a new one - £3220, can you believe it, no ways on this earth will I pay that.

The part number that they said I need is #A2118708926-80, being the NAV processor in the boot. I had a look at it, it has had water on it - still ejects the CD, but is water damaged. I have seen many on ebay at around £220. However, none of the ones on ebay have the part number I need. Can anyone advise?

Must be, typical stealer........ Rather sell the car than pay a merc dealer to repair it - lol

Hi RICHARD, need to contact you, I live in Yeovil Somerset, have sent you an email.I see you are in Berkshire, just down the road (A303) from me.

Hi NIBBO, they are only £220 on ebay, just have to find the right one that is compatible with my VIN number

Hi

Even if the dealer says its a nav drive fault, it may well not be..

Any nav drive starting with part number A211 will be fine. As is normal with eBay used parts, just be aware that they may not have been sourced by legal means :-( And you can get new ones for under £1k

Will email you seperately ...

command unti

Hi, I got hold of Richard from MBworld here in the UK. Brilliant chap, went to his house, he bypassed each and every component and found that the CD changer and NAV unit are both broken. He has bypassed the CD changer (dont really need one) and the NAV unit. Radio / CD working brilliant. No problems, all I have to do now is find a NAV unit on ebay. It took him 30 mins and cost me £75-00 which also included a CD disc #7 for the NAV unit when I find one. Highly recommened fellow. Told me the NAV unit got damaged by pressure washing the underneath of the car, water gets in the vents in the boot and soaks the NAV unit - something to warn other Merc owners of the 211 / E320 series. Paid Merc stealer £100 to tell me it was just the NAV unit, and they wanted £3220 to replace it - damn joke. So basically £220 for a unit on ebay and Richards £75 and the job is done - command unit working.
