Hi All

I purchased a CLS 320 last year but unfortunately it did not come with command and just a standrard double din Radio/CD player

I have been looking at retrofitting command but from what I can tell, it is not something I can afford.

Are there any standalone DoubleDin head units with DVD & NAV functions that you have installed in your own cars and how do you find them ?

Thanks

We have fitted Kenwood and Alpine double din units for customers in the past with good results. Obviously you wont get the full cluster integration that you would with an OEM unit but none the less the systems are feature rich.

I would strongly suggest you avoid these chinese clone things such as dynavin. The quality is really poor and often they dont work properly at all. They also have the look and feel of something made by Fischer Price;)

If you have the standard audio-20 then fitting an aftermarket (Kenwood/Alpine etc) unit isnt that difficult. You will need a loom adapter, fascia/mounting kit and the headunit. Limited steering wheel control integration can also be added.

You could actually fit Comand NTG 2.5 for around £700 if you wanted to and were happy with a Comand unit from ebay. A decent Kenwood/Alpine setup will cost at least this.

Alfie installed NTG2.5 in my W203 and I highly recommend both the NTG2.5 unit and Alfie's service.

The only general comment I have is that while the cluster and audio integration in COMAND are great features, I find the Waze app to be unparalleled when it comes to finding quick routes in city centres during rush hour, so I use both my phone (properly mounted in a fixed cradle) and COMAND.

I have no experience with 3rd-party OEM-size devices though.

Thanks for the reply Alfie

Pardon my ignorance but to get the full use out of the NTG2.5 am I right in saying as I will also need to by the nav computer ?

How much would this cost or are we talking £700 all in ?

Many Thanks

No the NTG 2.5 Comand has navigation built into it.

The £700 figure is based upon you sourcing the comand unit yourself. Some customers decide to buy a Comand from ebay and then bring it to us and we fit and code it all in the car. so by the time you've bought the comand and the necessary parts to fit it the total cost to you would be around £700. All depends on how much you pay for the comand unit. Obviously we couldnt give you a warranty on the comand unit but we do warrant all our work and any parts we supplied.
