Brabus D5 (E280 CDI) Avantgarde, E280 CDI Sport Estate, E320 Avantgarde now sold
Hi all

just bought a S211 (its a 2009 reg though)...

command, phone cradle, etc. seem a bit different from my other 211...

was wondering what I'd need to play my music, etc. through the command?

have attached pics; please excuse the MANKY phone cradle; that's courtesy the last owner and the boys at the car wash missed it...

Thanks!!

Sorry I mean being able to play music from my iPhone... Im guessing the connector in the glove box would be the point of connection?
Richard / Alfie; what would you guys suggest add the most comprehensive/ user friendly option? Bluetooth streaming?

Hi You need a iPhone cradle to charge the phone in the glovebox. With this attached you still can't play music via Bluetooth, but it will Bluetooth your phone signals without being in the cradle. You then need a cable to the glove box for an iphone/ipod to play MP3. I had a glovebox cradle fitted to my previous S211 by Richard/Alfie.

For music I use one of the kids old ipods and just leave it connected in the glovebox all the time, my iPhone stays in my pocket and pairs with the Comand as soon as I start the car. This saves continually fitting / removing the phone every time I get in / out the car which can be a fair few times during the day and eventually something will get broken whether it be the phone connection or the connection in the glovebox.

Just remember to remove all the kids songs first as there is nothing worse than going from "Comfortably Numb" to some techno nonsense.

I can already pair my phone via Bluetooth and the 'comfort' cradle is already fitted in the armrest box... That's for a Nokia though, but irrelevant I suppose as the Bluetooth connection works (though still broke thanks to ios8.02 but that's another story), and the jack in the glove box hints at further possibilities- hence the query. I'm hoping Richard or Alfie will be able to make sense of this and I can then order the necessary bits from them...

Lol my sentiments exactly Kenny... Floyd goes a long way towards calming my nerves :thumb:

BTW, if you have the Media Interface (which you do looking at the photos) and the 40 pin iPod lead for the media interface (which came with the car when new) you can add this: -

ViseeO WMA1000 Tune2Air Bluetooth Audio Streaming iPod/iPhone Adapter | Mercedes iPod solutions | Mercedes Retrofits | Comand Online Ltd

It gives you bluetooth audio streaming, but also transfers the playlists, artists and album lists so it basically behaves just like the iPhone was plugged in but all over bluetooth.

I think it also works with other BT audio devices but won't do the playlists/artists database in all cases.

Thank you Alfie and Richard!!
I was hoping for your advice...
Richard; I will look at ordering the adaptor you mentioned (the cables are missing though so will order those as well) just waiting as Alfie had asked for my Vin number to check in all options...
Alfie; I have emailed you the VIN number.
I'm a bit of an apple aficionado and like the idea of not having to plug stuff in every time I need to play music...
If there's a solution for playing music and videos etc... That would be interesting as well even if only to discount on costings...
Thanks again!!

Also bit worried as even though the car is 2009 registered; on the little yellow book in German: it says Feb 2008. Guessing it's been paid up and imported and then been sat around worth mercedes for a year before being sold?!!
so not sure if the accessories compatibility would be affected...

I've checked the VIN, and it is a Model Year 2009, with COMAND NTG2.5 and Media Interface, delivery date 03/02/2009

I'll let Alfie answer directly your questions ...

Thanks Richard!! Will order the media interface lead from you and check it all works fine with a direct plug in iPhone and then order the BT Unit ;-)
Thanks again!!!

... Email sent! :-)

You can deploy a number of solutions. The most cost effective to get music is to simply use the media interface you have with the appropriate cable. If you use an ipod then you can add to the ipod lead a tune2air Bluetooth dongle which negates the need to plug the iphone/ipod in each time you get into the car. It also allows newer Apple devices with the lightning connector to use the interface.

If you have an iphone 5 then you can use the iphone5 phone cradle in the car. This will give you Bluetooth phone plus charging and importantly use of the cars antenna when the phone is in the cradle.

Thanks Alfie!
I have ordered the cables from yourselves as they had done a Walkies when I bought the car...
Will test out the phones to make sure they work ok with the command, before ordering the BT dongle.
I have just got the 6 Plus and besides we have every iPhone that's been launched in the household!! ... so the BT option seems like a lasting solution :-)
In fact I bought the 3G cradle from you, which I still use (BT only) in my other car...
THANK YOU!!
