Command problems

Completed the install of Command into my facelift w08 today (& shiney pedals, cup holder & auto dimming RVM :D) but I've got a couple of teething problems:

1. The head unit can't see my cd changer - could it possibly be the power connection from the back of the Command? The magazine ejects from the cd changer so I assumed it's getting juice (unless it picks a live up from somewhere else for the eject function?)

2. The map doesn't seem to keep pace with the movement of the car - could this be the speed pulse connection? I picked it up from the passenger footwell (a green/black cable which goes into a blue connector). Is this the correct connection to tap into?

3. The backlights don't come on with the dash lights - could this be the canbus connection? The steering wheel buttons control the volume/radio station functions, so I assumed the canbus was functioning ok

Also, should the route direction arrows display in the console cluster display (the bit which displays the radio station etc)? Or is this something which only happens after the dealer has hooked the car up to the star diagnostic thingy?

Any help greatly appreciated

Does the Comand Unit shut off when you turn the engine off?

If you have the phone, does it work?

It sounds to me like your C1 or C2 connections are not connected properly.

You will need to visit your stealer to enable the instrument cluster for comand. Prepare to shell out a ridiculous sum for a 30 second job.

Try calibrating to your comand (this is a menu option). This process involves tyre size confirmation, new/worn options etc. This should make the map keep up with car movement.
Backlighting is another selectable option from one of the menu's. You can check & change this yourself. If your steering wheel volume controls are working the canbus connection is OK.
You can look at the D2B ring by putting the comand into diagnostic mode (Press mute, 1 and 3 simultaneously when in radio mode). One of the menus shows all D2B items present in the ring, you should see your multichanger as being present in the listing.

I got everything sorted with my Command install - it was just a loose connection.

re: enabling the cluster - what exactly am I asking the stealership to do? I've spoken to three different garages today & got absolutely nowhere. No one knows anything about enabling the cluster nor how long it will take or how much it will cost

The instrument cluster is coded to suit the identity (options etc) of the car. Most of these codes are set from simple menus on the Star unit, some are set by direct code input. You cluster currently does not know that sat nav (through comand) is present. It's as simple as that. Star is not complicated - basic coding is simple and driven by menus (I'm not an expert, but at my stealer they allow me to watch the tech do the coding). All your tech needs to do is to tell the cluster that sat nav is present on the car. The central display will then show directions etc.

This takes - quite literally - less than five minutes including opening the bonnet, connecting the Star etc. At my stealer the minimum labour charge is 0.33hours x £80. It's a rip off really.

Take a tip from me - based on experience. At the same time that your stealer tech does this mod, also set telephone to be 'present', and tv to be 'present'. There is no detriment to having these enabled, and it will save extra costs in the future if you decide to install these options. I had to pay each time that I installed these add-ons.

Glad you got everything sorted. if you have any probs with cluster programming, try whitefield mercedes , Manchester. they have done mine and a couple of other forum members' so know the score.
