Command Screen

Hi all.

I am NOT happy!
I have SL500 year 2005. I decided to clean the interior of the car including the face of the command unit. I brought some SatNav wipes from Halfords and gently cleaned the Command screen with one. This seem to remove an anti-glare film coating on the surface of the unit which has left a line running through the middle of the command face and has made it almost impossible to read the command unit in sunlight. Does the face has some sort of coating on it?
Not sure what to do? Do not want to spend £3+K on a new command unit.

Any ideas please as to what I can do.? Please!

T

Thanks

Tony

You are not the first to post about this, no consolation I know, sorry.

I would suggest enquiring at the dealers first off and then, sorry, if, you get no joy give comand.co.uk a call (members Richard and Alfie).

I have only cleaned my COMAND screen using a duster moistened with Maguire's interior detailing spray. So far no problems. There does seem to be a non reflective coating on the screen as it is quite matt.

Post back if you get any info / advise..

I am sure there is an anti-glare film available to cover the screen - I remember having one on my first TomTom Sat Nav. Should be a fairly cheap fix!

My COMAND screen always looks streaky and a bit grotty when switched off, but its fine when on and being used. Not a mark to be seen then. I only ever give it a gentle wipe with a damp cloth with just a smidge of liquid hand soap. I have never used a screen wipe as these are quite loaded with alcohol which can sometimes remove screen coatings and also react with some plastics.

Hi this may sound crazy but it works. When My AMGE 63 was delivered the command screen was blotchy when off (Mercedes Edinburgh claimed I did it). I did a web search and was told to do the following, as the screen was no good I took a chance and it came up like new(but I have now updatedit to the new hard drive command)
Here goes
Get some brassoliquid put some on a soft cloth and start rubbing it into the screen and keep doing it for a few minutes. The screen Will clear up and look like new.

Brasso is a mild abbrasive - sounds like it would "roughen" the surface of your screen... not sure it would look good though...

Or just polish away any coating until you have a clean (but shiny) screen.
