Hi Fuzzer,
I have read a couple of bad reviews on the B-class. I think they were basically saying it was over priced for what it was?

What were your impressions?

I have seen a Bentley Continental GT and was surprised at how small it was (relatively speaking) Is the Maybach a big beast, i.e. is it bigger than a Bentley Arnage?

Regards,
John

Maybachs are available in two models, a 57 and a 62.

The 57 is 5.7 metres long (18.75 ft) and the 62 is 6.2 metres long (20.4 ft).

Big beasts indeed!

I saw a new S class back in November (in Germany).

One of the people over there has a B-class. I'm not back there until January, but I'll try to remember to get a photo of it then.

The indy dealer near to our office in Düsseldorf has a C111 for sale(!)

Maybach's are HUGE - seen a few in Central London.

Do they look the part?

What about the two tone colour scheme, from the pictures I have seen the green\silver combination looks quite nice, but that is just from a picture.

I had a good look over the New S class in the New 'Flagship' dealership in Paris. There were both Long and Short wheelbase cars to see .

First visual impression is that it is a scaled down Maybach. It seems to have the same overall body shape. On closer inspection one notices the pronounced wheel arches which are flat sided at the front and rear. This seems to be the new corporate look which is reflected on the new ML and other new models.Personally I did not like the arches and thought they looked a bit industrial and clumsy.

The boot is a good size, and the engine compartment very typical. Nothing to see except covers over everything !

The interior was again fairly much as one would expect except a definite American look has crept in, set off by a Square faced,White analogue clock set dead centre of the dash. The leather seats were of excellent quality soft hide with a smoother feel compared to the normal.

The outgoing car was a large car that somehow did not look as big as it really was. The new S is also a large car and it looks Huge ! I have a sneaky suspicion that this model may follow along the lines of the 'Oil Crisis' S, the 164 model, as far as sales are concerned. Given that the top long wheel base cars are around the 100 grand, I feel that many people would prefer the Bentley Continental Flying Spur for a few more pounds.

I thought the wheel arches had a 'mondeo' look about them - didn't like them at all.

One of my customers has just taken delivery of two B class, I'm not sure about them to be honest, "posh Scenic" springs to mind although I will reserve final judgement until I have had a closer look!

I've seen several Maybachs, and basically, they are just an S Class in drag.

Quite why you would wish to own one of these, particularly when the new S Class is technically superior, and in long wheelbase form almost as roomy inside, is utterly beyond me.

Another one of Schremp's stupid ideas that should never have come to fruition. More brand dilution that will only hurt DC in the long run.

Given you could buy an S Class and a Ferrari with the change as opposed to a Maybach.....begs the question - why?

Does anyone else think that the designs appear to be catering to the US market? R-class???

I have only seen one new style Rolls Royce and am NOT impressed. For those that have seen both, what one looks better?

I'm very much a Bentley Arnage person although quality control is atrocious.

Regards
John

The RR Phantom is a better car than the new Bentley Flying Spur, but then there is a significant price difference between the two

the maybachs look awesome. I have seen many around work in the west end. I work a few hundred metres up from the mayfair dealership and they often have them kicking around. Look awesome in my opinion...super imposing.

Thanks for that.

How does the Maybach compare in looks, image, etc compared to the new Rolls Royce?

I don't think it fair to compare either with the Arnage as to me the Bentley is more 'Olde School'

Phantom -- contemporary, stylish, elegant, gorgeous, classy with incredible presence

Maybach -- last century, clumsy, bloated, disproportionate, chavish with big footprint and not much else

Ahhh,

Now say what you really think about the Maybach :D

Thanks very much for the reply, neither vehicle is popular down here.

I've a dark red/maroon one and others were black.

Those cars are way too big for the roads down your way, and too ostentatious too ...

Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, a cool rock musician has a Phantom.

Simon Cowell has a Maybach.

No need to say any more.

B classs is all wrong.

There are far too many lines .. looks busy for a smallish car.

The front is the biggest disaster, the 'elevated' bonnet and bloated headlights is ridiculous for Golf sized car .. looks like it wants to be a van. It reminds me of bodybuilders who have taken far too much steriods.

The other 'crime' on the B class is that you can get those nasty chrome alloys ... horrid.
