Company director jailed after fitting laser jammer to Range Rover and giving speed cameras the finge

If he's the kind of arrogant idiot to give a camera the finger I wonder how courteous he was likely to have been to other road users. Mind you, if being an obnoxious **** of a driver got you an automatic prison stretch the roads would be deserted.

Had one of these fitted to various cars over the years and they do work. Mine gave an audible warning in the vehicle and then switched itself off, the rationale being that, it gave you sufficient time to slow and if the laser operator reset and hit the car again, it would give a "normal" reading. I am not condoning the use of them and haven't used one in years, but it saved my bacon on more than a few occasions.

Plod ought to sort out their priorities, it’s no wonder the public view of the police force is at an all time low .

And the I'm sure the police view of the general public is also at an all time low, seeing as so many of them behave like entitled brats making out that they are somehow victims rather than perpetrators. Imagine all the extra time police would have if people who are supposedly grown-ups could exercise a modicum of restraint

The vans are mostly manned by civilian and "the police" are required to conduct these checks by government edict.

As for this particular idiot, he gesticulated three times whilst passing through three speed checks.......

I did read somewhere that if you you go through and they fail to get a reading they take a note of your number then after a couple of times you can get a visit.

Yup that was my impression. AFAIK error codes are not that common with a trained operator, so while getting one isn't "proof" it is quite likely to get their attention. Example here of someone being caught & prosecuted last year without any rude hand gestures ;)

'Arrogant' executive fitted his £54k BMW with £300 laser jammer that made him INVISIBLE to police cameras so he could speed 'with impunity'

The sentence is for perverting the course of justice, not for speeding.
Yes... also:

'...threw the device in a river behind his home in Grassington, North Yorkshire, when he found out that officers were investigating the rude gestures made from his distinctive white Range Rover with personalised number plates.... he lied about where the car was and tried to destroy the jammer.'

Well, it could be the intent that Police weren't happy with. After all, if your not going to speed, you don't need a jammer, so the logic says that if you have a jammer fitted to your car, there is an intent to speed, regardless whether you are speeding or not.

The guy could have easily been doing 10 mph below the speed limit, but because the camera operator could not get a valid reading, then there is reason to believe that measures have been taken to obstruct a measuring device. Add to that the rude gestures, this gives Police the necessary impetus to investigate.

Whether we like speed cameras or not, they are here to stay and have government backing for their use, and any attempt to disrupt their use is criminal in nature. I personally don't agree with their use, prefering our highways to be Policed properly by humans, but that doesn't mean I would douse one with petrol and set light to it, which is a regular passtime in the area I live.

The way I see it is simple. If you commit a crime, you should be discrete, not shout it from the rooftops. This guy shouted it from the rooftops, so gets everything he deserves.

Interesting reactions ......

...........as a watcher of some of the police camera action TV programs , i find it frustrating to see many flouting the law and police relationships without consequence. And I mean without consequence.

8 months in prison. Dwell on that.

...and neithed was jailed.

Both got a criminal conviction plus a suspended sentence though. And substantial fines/costs, and a ban in one case and points plus community service in the other.

My point is that it's not just people who blatantly wind the Police up that are getting caught.

This kind of stuff really gets my goat! Now firstly I don't & would never condone anything criminal. The guy committed a crime.

However as someone mentioned earlier it is all about priorities. After several years of austerity & cuts our resources are on their knees. As a law abiding tax payer I would like to see my money being spent on...well I don't know...serious crime....catching murderers, burglars, persistent criminals, terrorists, sex pests/ paedophiles, violent crime, thieves and general low life scumbags.

This is a crime don't get me wrong but the world has gone mad if anyone feels this is as important or more important to waste precious finite resources on. I'm sorry but we seem to be letting our country be run by idiots of the highest order in so many ways.

I have been the 'victim' so they put it on many many occasions over the years. Not once did I feel the criminal had been caught, brought to justice or anything that restores my faith in our style of policing or deterences. It is not getting any better either. I would love to feel different & otherwise.

I'm not for one second blaming any of our police, emergency services or the like as I think in the main the do a cracking job with the ridiculously small resources they are asked to do a job with. It is the idiots above them & the govt that need to squarely soldier the blame.

Stop harbouring money launderers in the UK and/or confiscate their dirty money & use it well. They don't deserve what they have, don't appreciate it & flout the law. These are people often linked to organised & serious crime. Do we punish & deter it? No we welcome it with open arms. Idiots. There is a true crime right there.

Destroying evidence and perverting the course of justice. he got done for that not speeding, he would have been better off taking the speeding fines ! Al Capone was jailed for tax evasion not murder.

The big danger I can envisage is that you go through a speed check operated by a police traffic car and not a ‘safety camera van’ .

If the police find their equipment jamming , they just might decide to stop you for a roadside check , which they can do without needing a reason , and they just might find whatever equipment it is that you have .

If it is a ‘garage door opener’ , I just hope you have the matching garage door at home to be operated by it ...

More of a reason to throw the book at an idiot who is having fun wasting police time?

Or if it's a 'parking sensor' that your car doesn't already have them ... as per the first link I posted.

Wouldn't it be nice if the money raised from speeding fines was used to fill in the potholes that cause so much distress. If this was the case, I'd willingly speed knowing that my money was being used wisely.
