Completely removing EGR system

I want to remove all of these horrible systems that Mercedes have fitted to me car, EGR valve, Inlet port flaps etc, after cleaning my EGR valve last month it actually upsets me to see how much crap is going through my engine.

Have I read correctly that the software for these systems can't be removed? Have I also read that some models of Sprinter didn't have EGR, MAF or the inlet flaps fitted?

Worse case scenario, could I remove all these systems then just wire in bits and bobs to fool the system?

Would there be any downsides to removing this stuff?

Had the software for the EGR valve on my Honda CDTI disabled. More power, better economy, no worry of EGR failure, easy emissions pass at MOT.
