confused by the weather

I've noticed that over the last couple of weeks the centre screen seems a little unsure if its light (but not dark). Its only in the mornings and it has been very foggy and grey when there is the confusion. I've switched from auto to day and it changes and then back to auto and it goes back to dark. The auto lights are on so clearly that sensor says it's dark. Are they on the same sensor?
On a daytime, sunny, run all seems well.
I wondered if I had a problem but a 2016 golf I have as a courtesy car was having the same issue this morning so maybe its all fine.
Anyone else finding this?

Howdo.

I don't think they are the same sensor as the auto headlights as I have noticed that my autolights will come on when it's still quite light, but the instrument cluster only autodims when it gets darker.

What Yuuguy says - definitely two sensors on my 209.

I thought the headlights operated by a sensor and the dashboard gets told it's night time by COMAND. - Maybe I misunderstood how it works.
