1999 SL320
Hi everyone I’m new to this forum, I’d like some help if possible. I’ve recently bought an SL320 1999 model and I’m going to refresh the front suspension. I’m stuck though on part numbers for the front shock. Bilstein b4 are listed as 22-002327 but these correspond to both A1293201330 and A1293201230. I can find sachs to cover A1293201230 but not the 330 part number. The bilstein reference suggests they should be the same part, is this correct? Many thanks

Maybe the 230/330 correspond to either L or R shocks ? Or an updated part number ?
Not much help I know.

From what I can see on epc the 230 is the pre 98 facelift and 330 thereafter. Shocks are the same for either side. Does anybody know if there are any fitment differences between the larger and smaller disc models maybe?

This is what makes me think surely the 230 and 330 parts must be interchangeable?
Why not fit OE parts from Mercedes?

Then you will know that you have the correct fitment.

Purely the cost difference as I thought this era would have been sachs or boge rebranded for Mercedes?
Mercedes will have had them made by someone (possibly those you quote) but to MB specifications.

What is the cost diffeence?

I had both front dampers replaced last year after a front spring broke as it seemed sensible to refresh the front complete.

The dampers were very reasonable at around £80 each from memory

Main dealer did them for £80 each for the parts? That’s unbelievable I’d have expected them to be 4-5 times that as the cheapest I have found are about 125 each for oe aftermarket but this is only the earlier part numbers. Which dealer did you use, also what year car did they go on? Many thanks

2008 E320 CDI Sport.

I presume my independent got them from MB Salisbury

I take it that you haven't asked MB for a price?

The springs were under £70 each

Ah right ok that makes sense, w211 e class parts are significantly cheaper than for an r129 series. Thanks for your input though.

Have you had a quote from MB?

I will do when I can on Monday. If all aftermarket though are £125 upwards I’d be surprised if they aren’t at least double. As a comparison I have got TRW front arms for £117 each and MB wanted over £350 each.

Mercedes parts prices can be......... Interesting!

Then again, cheapest can be poor quality.

You have to look at ease of fitment, knowing that the specification is correct and look at how long the originals lasted.

Have you tried AUTODOC ?

Haha. Well spotted. I meant A1293201330 and A1293201230. But still best to verify in the EPC.

I figured you did buddy , just wanted to highlight your shocking mistake to the world ;)
