Hi All,
We’re looking at buying a 2013 Mercedes ML250 CDI with around 110,000 miles on the clock. The plan is to use it for towing our caravan, but I’m not really concerned about its towing ability — I know it’s more than capable.

What I’m really trying to figure out is:
How reliable is this model at this age and mileage?
I’d love to hear from anyone who owns (or has owned) one. Specifically:
  • What common issues or failures should I be aware of?
  • Any known weak spots in the drivetrain, suspension, or electronics?
  • How does the 2.1L diesel engine hold up long-term?
  • Are there any expensive maintenance items that typically pop up around this mileage?
  • Would you say it’s still a safe bet, or should I look at something newer or with a different engine (e.g., ML350)?
Any real-world experience or tips would be hugely appreciated before I make the leap.

Thanks in advance!

With any car it isn't just the mileage but how it's been treated and serviced. The early models of the 2.1-liter diesel engine were prone to fuel injector problems, which could cause hesitation and uneven running. That shouldn't be a problem with a 2013 model.

What's the service history like, and, very importantly, has the transmission been serviced correctly? It should have had at least one.

It should of had two ATF changes !
