How difficult is it to lubricate the convertible roof hinges on my 2006 CLK and what type of oil/grease should be used?

I think I read on here somewhere that you halt the roof opening about half way and use silicone lube. Worth a search maybe.

I have done mine with spray lithium grease.
I had the rear deck jam at the final point of closing last winter - a good firm shove closed it so I left it to the spring to take a look and fix it.
Previously, about one time in five it closed with a good thump and I think the two were connected.
Come the spring I opened the roof until the rear deck was vertical and it was obvious that the grease on the two locating pegs that slide into the two tabs had dried and gone sticky. I cleaned these off with wd40 and then coated them with lithium grease. I also cleaned the locating tabs.
I then sprayed every hinge/moving part I could find with silicone oil spray and then lithium grease - with a cloth behind to prevent overspray not forgetting to pull off the covers and do the deck hinges revealed when the boot is open and the chrome oval guides that lock and pull the roof down the final half inch.
Not sure if that is the correct way to do it but I haven't had a problem since and the deck hasn't closed with a thud at all since last spring.
One thing to be aware of is that after a few minutes of the roof being half open the car will beep a few times and the roof will slide gracefully into the stowage compartment.

One other thing I did this summer was to just clean up the two rams for the boot separator and put a couple of drops of silicone spray on them just to make sure that it operates freely and locates fully and cleanly into the separator deployed switch.

Lubricated all moving parts with motorcycle chain wax. This product is grease dissolved in a solvent. The thin, grease bearing liquid penetrates right into the chain pins, the solvent evaporates, leaving the grease behind. Works great on motorcycle chains, time will tell if it is as good on roof mechanisms.

Google. TASC SP1 used it on my Pano Roof
