Appended to my "fixed price" conveyancing quote was this....

Bear in mind, during the SSTC process, many wobblers can occur, meaning these services might be called upon.

Now I know they've been to legal school but really .

Not even the South East or some big corporate firm - a father and a couple of his sons operating from a couple of small high street shops.

The cheapest is almost twice the price of a Chartered Engineer. If you don't laugh, you'll cry.

I wonder how much they pay their secretaries?

Who, in my considerable experience with a previous guy before he retired, do all the legwork, leaving the solicitor to read a bit and sign.

what were the rates of the firm you went with
these erm.. dont seem that bad:dk:

I don't necessarily have a problem with high fee solicitors, providing they deliver the service.

I've seen what low fee ones can do, and they can cost far more than what they bill.

I do object to the ones who try and negotiate my meagre fee's down though.

Look what ad keeps popping up for me now at the top of the page :D

My Grandfather (who was a solicitor) was making £50k a year from conveyancing only in the sixties, in addition to his other work. He did know how to spend it though!

I refer the right honourable gentleman to the answer I gave a moment ago.

Not a legal beagle, but my employer charges me out at an average of £400/hr - and in more affluent times it has been twice that.

Wish I got paid anywhere near that tho...
