I ran a W114 280CE for a couple of years as my daily driver. Nice old bus and liked a drink (15MPG).
Check the footwells too as they rust for fun.
You do get lots of attention in one.

I'm sure the engine could be swapped for something slightly more modern from the 90s; Or maybe a V8 which would have no better economy but more fun

lovely looking car but most likely a money pit, the inner wing rust issue is the big question mark over it's survivability.
