Every so often I see a small stain mark from the pipe that runs down the front left hand side of the engine. What causes this as i don't seem to need to top up the coolant level.

Now the coolant light has come on it needed three quarters of a litre to top it up.
As the coolant is coming from this pipe on the side of the engine goes this mean the water pump is on the way out? ( the loss of coolant is only apparent after using the car and it is deposited on the drive.)

sounds likely that the pump or seal is past its best. IIRC there is a little drainage hole on the pump housing that will leak coolant when there is a problem with the seal.

The waterpump change is a rather fiddly and time consuming job so even if its just a seal, I'd be tempted to change the whole pump assembly anyway if its never nbeen replaced.

New pump £40 + vat also fitted a new fanswitch under £9. All systems go again.
