Good Morning
Sorry I feel like I’m spamming a bit with a couple of recent threads but as these issues can be specific to certain models/engines I’m hoping someone has had similar experiences.
Recently purchased a 2011 C200CDI with the OM651 engine. I had the coolant flushed last week as it was looking a little old and a little rusty, although there was no oil in expansion tank. The day after the flush the add coolant light came up. It was a little low so topped it up with distilled water and antifreeze at the 50/50 ratio, I put this down to possible air in the system after the flush.
Yesterday morning (car stone cold) the light came on again but went off after 1/2 mile of driving. I work pretty close to home but the car was up to temp in this short drive (5 miles) so carefully opened the cap to check. The coolant level was quite a bit above the mark in the tank. I think if I had added again it would have been right to the top of the tank when arriving at work.
Sorry for the long post but I'm struggling to understand how the light can come on first thing but the coolant be quite a bit over the mark after the car gets up to temp? If it stayed low then I’d think I’m loosing coolant somewhere. I understand that coolant will rise when hot but if I was to top up cold and it rises the same amount it would possibly overflow.
As a side note I can’t see any coolant loss in the normal places, water pump or fuel filter area, although there does seem to be a small amount of old coolant staining under the fuel filter housing. Every video I’ve watched of a leak in that area though seems to show wet coolant there. Oil looks fine, no milky residue at all and no smoke on start up etc.
Finally the odd thing that I’ve never experienced with a diesel car is that the interior fans seem to blow reasonably warm almost as soon as the car is started. Previous diesels take a while to do this. Could this point to an air lock in the heater matrix? The car itself seems to get up to temp pretty quickly, within 3-4 miles. Never overheats and always stays around 90c when fully up to temp.
Thanks
