Coolant fan on a 2011 A Class 160 CDI (W169) runs constantly. Advised to replace fan assembly and secured a second hand tested unit. Same problem! I am now trying to locate the engine/coolant temperature sensor which is connected to fan, but have no idea where it is! Any assistance appreciated.

Before you bolts more parts to it get it plugged into a Star. It will save you ££ in the long run.

Have you checked for any codes? As above, plug it into STAR or buy an icarsoft mb ii otherwise you are just spending money on guesses.

Moodi: Thank you for responding and you are talking sense. However when the problem developed I took the car to an Auto Electric specialist who did the diagnostics and pointed me at the fan control motor explaining that the cost of a new unit, plus labour to replace it, would not be worth it. The temperature sensor is not expensive and it might be worth giving it a try.

Ah, ok. Did that specialist get codes read then?

The sensor will likely be on the radiator so try looking around the bottom and sides. Hopefully someone with a schematic can give you the exact location.
