2002 C220 cdi
Hi, as a new member to this forum, i am trying to possibly get some information regarding my mercedes problem.
i have a 2002 C220 cdi which i have had for a few years now with no major problems and has driven absolutely fine.
about a week ago, i started the car and immediately it flashed up with 'Coolant-Visit Workshop' on my dash and the engine fan cut in straight away. The car had gone into Limp made, but luckily i was at home so switched car off straight away.
I checked coolant, coolant sender and coolant temp gauge and all were fine, so i called RAC out to do a diagnostic test, and here are the results:

The RAC man didn't really understand the codes, so couldn't really tell me anything constructive, so i have created this post hoping someone out there can maybe help. I would happily spend up to £1000 to get this problem sorted, as i really like the car.
Thankyou, awaiting replies.

With all those codes and when they cover a number of different areas, I would suspect that your battery has low voltage.
One of the errors does mention low voltage.

Is your battery low? Is it old? Can you check it?

Battery is fine, Steve, showing full power on test

Some of these codes don't match the Mercedes definitions so wouldn't take the RAC result at face value. Maybe worth disconnecting the battery giving it an overnight charge and see what happens. It may automatically clear some of the reports and at least it's a no cost start. That variety of issues needs to be checked by an independent or dealer as the NOX sensor (one of the wrong code descriptions) is not cheap, neither is the steering angle sensor. Half your budget just on those new from MB if needed.

This might be of help. Our CLK 2003 vintage but petrol had this warning come up last year. All fluids and sensors were fine. Turns out the fan or its controller was faulty. This can also trigger a coolant warning. An Indie with Star will quickly sort out the cause

Are these codes current or historic? It's not clear from the screen.

If historic, it may just be showing you all the crap that was accumulated over the years.

If current, you need to look at a common cause, if not the battery than perhaps the ECU etc.

Either way, get the car to a specialist with STAR.

ok, thank you.
ivejust taken out the EGR valve, cleaned it and made sure it was operating ok. Put it all back together and nothing has changed.
Yes, I need to find someone with STAR in Bristol area

FURTHER TO THIS:
I have removed the EGR valve and rigorously cleaned and tested it for piston movement. Put it all back together and nothing has changed.
I really need to find someone with STAR diagnostics in Bristol area.
All help and answers greatly appreciated, thank you.

The man you need to see is Steve@ Avantgarde Motors in Clevedon.
Well recommended indy and forum supporter.

Vehicles with similar DTC's (current - not old and stored) has in many cases had electric connectivity problems in the engine compartment. Not properly seated connectors. Moisture, oxidation, contact elements not properly locked into its housing, etc. Or simply not tightened battery pole or chassis gnd connectors.

If the engine fan runs at highest speed immedeately after crank, then it can be a case of lost CAN-bus communication between the fan and the engine management system in which the fan runs at highest speed in order to protect the engine from overheating, not getting any engine temperature data from the management system.

Thank you for that information, what would you suggest to remedy this ? Do you know where the fan controller is located please ?
