E220 cdi
Hi all.... I have a simple question. I recently changed the thermostat on my E220 cdi as it was running at a cool 60c .... the now runs up to temp but when I started the car from cold with the bonnet up the electric fan was running. It wasn't running fast. Is this normal? I've only had the car a few days and MB is new to me so I am unsure if this is normal.

Had another look at this today. It seems there is about 4 volts coming out of the fan socket. Is this fan variable or should it simply be on or off ??

Well I can't believe nobody knows if the fan runs at slow speed all the time... Oh well.... Spoke with a MB specialist today and it shouldn't .. The relay near the front wing is stuck closed...

I'm sure I've read somewhere on this forum that the cooling fan(s) is/are multi-speed devices. Can't find a thread at the mo.
I think it may also be activated by the air-con system, not just engine.

Edit:- this link may help

known fault fan control relay fails in safe mode ie fan on with ambient temp ie below 15 deg cent you will be ok part about £100 and 10 mins to fit after taking front wheel off.
part will be on back order when you order it need chassis num
mbz uk want to know who has ordered them because so many fail and the damage to the engine is mega ££££

Ok Thanks for the help guys... I'll check that relay and see whats up with it...
