Hi all, I have an e320 CDI on a 54 plate, ongoing problem with my non working cooling fan, the fan itself has been replaced along with two temp sensors to thermostat and block also the thermostat, I don't know whether this is related but the AC only works if the engine revs above 1500 rpm.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Has anyone plugged it into STAR diagnostics and read the fault codes ?

That would be the best thing to do .

You possibly can jump 12V from a battery straight onto the fan terminals to see if they run , if they do , then check voltage present at the fan cable coming from the car .

The AC issue could be related , but again plugging into STAR should indicate what is wrong .

Also one thing I did notice, the Haynes manual says there is a sensor that recognises when AC is on and increases rpm to compensate, is this correct because in mine that doesn't happen at idle ?

There should be an idle control unit which keeps revs within limits , depending on load ( such as when you select drive ) .

Ok, well thankyou everyone for the help, I guess the only answer is a trip to the specialist,.

Hi
Are you talking about the fans on the front of the rad?
If so on my C43 these were specifically for the A/C coming on and off with the A/C gas pressure they could very in speed depending on requirement of the system this variable speed used a control module inside the N/S wheel arch and were a common item to fail.

Hiya, no on the e320 it's just one large fan behind the rad, someone did say on one of the threads that this also is linked to the air con but I'm not sure.

On a different note, mine has air suspension on the rear only and has covered 150 k miles, it's just started sinking very low on one side only when the engines off and then takes a while to pump back up and the pump is clicking and hissing , I'm guessing there's a leak somewhere, my question is bearing in mind the mileage would it be worth replacing both air bags and the pump ?

Check A/C pressure. IF it's too low, the electric fan would not engage at idle and revving it would make the mechanical fan spool up.

Ok thanks, where would the mechanical fan be because the only one visible is 1 large one in a shroud ?
