I have just fitted a new original Mercedes water pump to a mates 2005 E 220 cdi.
All went according to plan but we went out in it today and the heater is cold?
The only pipe I can feel is Luke warm. A search says there is a valve that sticks but I am wondering if these are prone to Air Locks .
Any ideas ?
Thanks

I would begin by starting the car and removing the cap from the coolant tank and let it run for around 30 mins to purge all the air from the system.
Once thats done, re fit the cap, run the car again and see if you have any heat coming from the vents on full power.
Also, check the temperature guage to see if its reaching the recommended 85c when fully up to temperature. If its not, suspect the thermostat needs changing.

There is a heater control valve that can corrode internally and not allow cold or hot water to circulate, but changing the water pump shouldn't have affected that valve.

Thanks fir that
We traveled 35 miles today and it's then we noticed it's blowing cold.
Temp gauge is normal and although I never ran it with the cap off the coolant is up to its level.
I could just feel'ine heater pipe and it was only Luke warm. Seems water is not passing through the heater for some reason.
The valve is in the bulkhead is that correct?

Thanks Ken

^ Yes Ken. Against the bulkhead, drivers side. Very awkward to reach but a cheap part at around £30

Sorted thanks Guys.
I gave it a gentle prod with a brush pole and it's working
Must have dried out while it was without water as I changed the pump.

Thanks again
