Guys

I may have to travel to Cornwall (I live near Guildford) to collect something with a trailer that I may (!!!) have bought.
I have access to said trailer but I suggested to the Mrs that we have a night/weekend away, rather than me doing the 4.5 hr each way journey in one hit by myself......what was I thinking ??!?!?!?
At this stage she has flat-refused to go in my L200 but I may be able to overcome that if I either sweet-talk the trailer owner who has a nice Rangie, or I hire something. Predictably this is turning out to get bloomin expensive.
So - the item is near a place called Helston.
What can I suggest to Mrs JB would be worthwhile to go see/do (chances are our 13yr old daughter will come too) ?? I have never been anywhere down that far south west.
Then I just need to find somewhere to stop that I will be happy to leave my pal's trailer overnight.... :wallbash:

TIA

Hi John, hope you are well?

Last time we were in Cornwall we watched the sun set off Lands End, it was simply stunning! Then there is St Michaels Mount just along the coast where you walk out on the causeway at low tide.

The Cornwall coast is just amazing anyway so I'm sure you will find plenty to do.

Incidentally, if you're going to Helston there is a pub called The Red Lion where my uncle used to be the landlord many years ago, although there are loads of pubs called The Red Lion in Cornwall....

All the best,

Leigh.

I live in mid cornwall, if I'm honest I find helston a tad backwards. Nice to pass through that's about it.

Eden is always good yet a tad commercial compared to real cornwall. Mylor and Falmouth are nice areas to visit. Charlestown harbour which near me is where poldark is filming at the moment.

Perranporth watering hole is good as it has a real decent pub on a 2 mile soft sandy beach.

You're welcome to leave your trailer in my yard which is just off the a30 if you don't wish to lug it around for the weekend.

Beèn to Cornwall many times and love it. Eden is a good day out, Polperro is nice, Helford is delightful although perhaps a little boring for a young teenager. I'd give East and west Looe a miss.....it's a bit of a nothing place and over rated......good fish and chips tho

I'd agree with with looe, it's nothing special.

All good so far guys thanks, and Gunning, ty for the offer

Porthelven gets my vote south coast very nice restaurants and a proper old pub called the ship over looking the harbour and if you love seafood a restaurant called the blue haven I think ,gets his sea food from the harbour in front of his door marvellous

Such an underrated part of the country. These sites are world beaters, but folks just keep on getting on those planes...

Treen near Sennen is very nice for camping + spotty dog pub. If you have a camper van you can camp in the grass village car park for £2 a night if campsite is full.

"Cornwall - things to do?"

Retire there............;)

Didn't know you were near Charlestown, I spend quite a bit of time in the Pier House Hotel or Rashleigh arms. It's a great place I love it. I also really like the the Rashleigh Inn on the beach at Polkerris.

Out of all the places I travel to in the world I always enjoy my time in Cornwall.

I'll give you a shout next time I'm down :thumb:

I lived in Cornwall for 35 years and have to say ... go to 'paradise park' in Hayle, (it's on the way to Helston anyway) it is possibly the best exotic bird sanctuary in the UK, very 'hands-on' meaning some of the birds can be handled and a few falconry displays throughout the day. Well worth the trip. Just my opinion but steer clear of the 'Eden project' unless you are heavily into plants ! Yawwwn! Oooh and if you get the chance... buy yourself( and the family) a 'Malcome Barnecutts' Cornish pasty, they are THE best pasties in the whole south west ( I know this because my wife used to be the manageress at his Launceston shop) :D

The National Trust has an abundance of gardens and historic houses in Cornwall to visit if of interest. Llanhydrock being the best im my opinion.

Yeah go for it. My mrs lives in Charlestown and I live about a mile away. Always happy to go for a pint!

Always wanted to move to Cornwall. If I don't do it soon I will have to retire there :)

Well we are.......house lined up and hopefully be in just before Christmas if all goes well (then again it is a house move, so who knows?) we will be just 100 metres stroll from the beach.........should be fun in December! :wallbash:

Roll on next Summer :bannana:

I seem to remember staying in Mullion one year for a family holiday probably 30 years ago now.

We went to Flambards / Aero park which was quite good I seem to remember.

Agree with Polperro being nice.

Went to Cornwall last year with Mrs JB but Mullion cove was a bit ropey so I'd give it a miss.

Polruan was nice I think as well.

I used to work for a software firm who had a customer in Charlestown called "Svedala Pumps" or similar.

Strangely, I was talking about this to someone else a couple of weeks ago for some reason and it appears to not be there any more on Google maps - just up the hill from the Pier House Hotel.

... which incidentally is where I used to stay back in the very late 90s / early 00s.

Used to eat far too much in the restaurant and then go for a walk down to that small beach.

Small world.
