At which point do we need to worry about the DPF regeneration when we are confined to short journeys.
Personally I cannot see why we are not allowed to take our cars from our home on a reasonable run and return home without stopping. We would not be meeting anyone and would maintain the DPF in the short term. This could be done if the DPF warning light comes on. I am all for the social distancing and am keeping to that.
What do you all think.

Roger

Highly unlikely to be an issue. :)

The point is doing small journeys to the shops for essentials (10 minutes each way) will quickly block the DPF. An Icarsoft MB11 could be used to do a forced regen but a good run would be better.

Roger

If your car needs a regen desperately - prompted by a message on the dashboard - and you absolutely need to use your car (key worker or medical requirement) then it would be worthwhile taking a different route (on an essential journey) to enable the regen. Until then, don’t worry about it.

You would be increasing the risks of an RTC and additional burden on the emergency services and hospitals..

(Devil's Advocate mode)
I would say there is more chance of an RTC going to the shops with everyone else than whipping down the motorway with less traffic about.
But I do take note.

Roger

Walk to the shops and get exercise at the same time!
You'll be surprised what you can get in a rucksack.

Ouch!! the word exercise is hitting below the belt.:) I am 72 years old with a disabled wife so lugging the weekly shopping would need a trolley. I bought the car to save on such issues. If I get stopped in the car and I can use the excuse that as I do not go in for exercise I am exercising the car instead.;)

Is your wife able to stay at home alone? Not sure whether it originated from the Government or not, however I recall guidance that people should shop alone if possible, and many shoppers appear to be doing this. Makes sense. May not always be possible though.

Can you not fit wheels and a big rucksack to the wife? :D

On my way to work this morning I had to dodge two cyclists that seem to think they don't have to check before entering a roundabout. Then a delivery driver simply cut across a T junction in front of me and twice cars pulled onto the main road without stopping...
I know there is a significant drop in traffic but for heavens's sake!

Go back to the 70' & 80's, very few overweight people.

Around that time I use to look at another country from across the pond and couldn’t understand why most people appeared to be overweight.
Fast forward to present day and leaving medical issues to one side, you don’t have to look far to see the condition has spread. Cheap fast food outlets and unhealthy options are clearly to blame.
I’m a firm believer in you are what you eat and you have to take responsibility for your own actions instead of trying to blame everyone else.
Slightly O/T I know.

Dont take this the wrong way but, you're in a risk category because of your age, you should be staying at home.
Do you have anyone else that can get your shopping?
Park the car up until this is all over.

Depending on how long the lockdowns goes on for.... three months or so of occasional short drives to the shops won't get your DPF clogged.

I know exactly what you mean , an American breakfast with it's wide calorific array , Denny's and Ponderoser left me a mid 20's bloke looking 6 months pregnant when I met Mickey Mouse .

Ponderosa b4 the theme parks was essential. First time in the establishment I couldn’t believe what was on offer just for breakfast. I only wanted a slice of toast and a cup of tea. Nearly got kicked out of the place.
