So, if there's a public health scare: do prices get affected at public auctions?

Because there's one on today, involving an SL55 with just 30k on the clock...

(For elimination of doubt: I have no connection with this business or this vehicle - but I'm curious as to whether Coronavirus stops people from rocking up.)

That's a lot of money for a 2002 SL55. There is a nice 2005 low mileage (50k miles) one near me for £17k.

Well, this one’s 30k miles and all main dealer history. There’s another, with double that mileage for a chunk less.

And, of course that’s only the estimate, and no indicator of actual... We shall see

(Once again, I have no skin in this game. I just fancy a 2007 Sl500 one day...)

Interesting, eh ?

Have to say I was also interested in the CL65, with 54k on the clock which went for £19.2k including premiums

That's a lorra lorra car.....

There are some curious winners and losers in this Coronavirus maelstrom.

All that said, Auctions are a risky business, so caveat emptor, yada yada... Dealers and direct private sellers are safer.

Did it sell? Not shown as sold on the website.

Looks like it didn’t, unless a deal was done after the auction.

(Get thee behind me, Satan, i’m looking for a Facelift.)

You have to read the first paragraph of the blurb on the higher-mileage one (post #10); 'purple prose' doesn't begin to cover it...

It's nice to see prices on these cars dropping to what seem like reasonable levels, but it's no use to me; I just don't want one any more.

Isn't the point that most motors sold at the bottom of the estimate range ?

£56k for a 2010 Ferrari California, for example, feels like a 20% discount on Autotrader asking prices.

There's an implication here for anyone trying to buy, or sell a car this Spring.

The market for old AMG cars has been depressed for months, nothing to do with Covid 19.

Yes, Winter does depress car prices, doesn't it? Not just for cars that are nearly two decades old.

Do many SL55's sell for less than £10k ?

The lowest Autotrader asking price for a sub-60k mile SL55 is £14k, And the few SL55's up at exactly £10k have more than 120k miles on the clock.
