Correct size alloys for e320 w124 estate

Going back to an earlier post the 15 hole ET 48 wheels are a suitable size for the 124 according to Mercedes AMG BMW alloy wheels & tyres, UK wheel alloys. They are very highly regarded. Just a thought but are all the bolts the same length? Possibly locking bolts slightly longer?

a point to consider perhaps is that the estate had the thick vented rear discs
as opposed to the slim non vented discs found on saloon and coupe.

It's possible there is rust in the holes the bolts screw into stopping them going all the way home.

I'd take the wheels off, have a good look into the hole & even if you can't see anything give it a good scrape & vacuum it out.

hi guys, bringing this up again as there seemed much debate last time around

i must have missed something last time round as i thought the overal majority agreed that 16" were fitted to my car, but speaking to dash and billy, it seems i got that wrong

so i should have 15's on my car but what ET should they be and how many holes???

thanks everyone

8 Hole, 15x6.5J and ET44 as standard.

OK, here we go:

* standard wheel was 6.5 x 15" steel or alloy, ET 49 (+/-) with a 195/65 x 15 tyre
* Sports Chassis / Sportline wheel was 7 x 15" alloy, ET 49 (+/-) with a 205/60 x 15 tyre

W124 ET varies from 41 to 49 depending on wheel & fitment but it's not super-critical. Logically the additional 1/2" wheel width for the Sports Chassis / Sportline cars should need an offset change of about 6 mm

Ticking noise is probably balance weights on the inside of the wheel catching the front calipers. It could be too-long wheel bolts catching the (rear) handbrake mechanism but that's not likely with original MB wheels & bolts

I have never seen different bolts for 15-hole and 8-hole wheels so I assume they are all the same

Some cars, particularly E320s, have bigger front calipers and steels won't fit over them. Rears have smaller calipers so no problem

Some cars, in my experience E320 estates with Sports Chassis, have bigger vented rear discs and it is difficult to order/source the correct discs. The discs don't affect wheel fitment

W124 alloy wheel bolts come in long and short-headed versions but the shank & threaded length is the same. Aftermarket bolts (eg alloywheelsdirect bolts) may have a shank which is threaded all the way - no problems with that

W124 steel wheel bolts are all the same

W124 estate steel wheels are badged "T-Wheel" and are about twice as thick (and twice as heavy) as standard W124 steel wheels

Alloy & steel wheel bolts are not interchangeable

Aftermarket & replica wheels are nothing but trouble. Aftermarket 8-holes can usually be spotted because the valve is not opposite a wheel bolt like on an original wheel
