Hi to all. Just thought i'd pass on my recent experience regarding title. Background: Car went in for repair mid last year. N/S front wing replaced, both rear arches resprayed. O/S front wing showing corrosion lower aft edge. MB bodyshop manager mentions the previously (N/S) wing still looks good. I say "hopefully the corrosion won't come back" he says "you do realise that if it does, MB won't pay for repair, as they will only pay for corrosion repairs onece" That was a shock to me! Also, he said "are you aware that MB have stopped providing a courtesy car and it would be a good idea to coincide the time it will be in for repair with a holiday" Just can't believe that if the repair was to be done under warranty (an admission), why no coutesy car. Another cost cutting exercise i believe.

Just thought info may be useful for anyone contemplating taking car in for corrosion repair.

Last time I mine went in for mechanical work (a couple of weeks ago) I was told that there is now a charge for the courtesy car of £15 per day.

I had exactly the same with mine, originally they only replaced one of the front wings and repaired the other. Shortly afterwards the rust came back on the repaired wing so I took it back to MB and said they should have replaced the other wing with the other one. After a bit of friendly banter they saw it my way and agreed to replace the other one f.o.c.

As far as the courtesy car thing goes, the MB approved bodyshop provided me with one everytime (five times in all), I just had to get it insured myself.

Got my CL repaired last November 2008, replaced both rear quarter panels, repainted roof, repainted bonnet. They offered me back then courtesy car, but I had to pay the insurance.

The corrosion.... or whatever is called on aluminium, came back on the roof around the sunroof. I moaned about the quality of the work ... as it is not acceptable to come back in 3months time from last repair... they asked me to leave the car for one day to be inspected by MB HQ, I had a courtesy car for a day free of charge insurance free as well.

Now the car is going in again sometime in May as a new repair is approved free of charge for the roof and the passenger door and a few corrections from the last bodywork.

I must admit I am pleased with the whole ... dealing I had with MB til now.

I had the area around the lock on the tailgate of my W210 repaired twice so thats not wholly correct , if the car is repaired properly it should only need doing once

I will await MB's response and keep this post updated for future reference.

Your car sounds like a nightmare. You are far more forgiving than i am, i would be having very serious words about the quality of the work that had been done and would have had the car taken to a different coachwork's (you should not use that word "Coachwork's when referring to shop that did the repair).

Saying all that the CL's have got previous for that particular problem, well those that where manufactured before the first quarter of 2003 when they where galvanised.

Well I had a quite word with MB, the bodyshop that did the repair is a third party, apparently MB does not do aluminium repairs... as it is very special, plus I have been to 4 different dealers before I found the one what deals with aluminium repairs. Galvanised aluminium? I do not know to be honest...

Anyhow the car was inspected after my quite complain regarding the quality of the repair. Apparently a guy from the MB HQ came and inspected the car and found many things to be corrected from the previous repair, even someones I had no clue that were there.

I must admit the MB warranty person that dealt with my case has been more than helpful, took the extra mile.

Anyhow ... the bodyshop is instructed with a long list of what to be done, a copy of it will be with me next week. And MB will be there when I pick up my car to inspect it will me upon delivery.

Now you see why I cannot fault them.

Full history on mine but because its had non MB paint before they wont touch my rust.

oh and the repaint was not even in the same place as the rust I was seeing them about!

Good news - MB agreed to replace O/S front wing, repair bottom half of 3 doors and some corrosion i found on the day prior to dropping car off, was agreed 2 days after car went in, very impressed. Body shop manager told me car could go in within week as it was a quiet period, i said i need to sort out a car so, he said, a Courtesy car is available FOC, great. This Manager is new and I believe he is much more helpful than his predecessor. However, when he explained that the Courtesy car insurance has a £1k XS, i decided to take out a short term insurance policy with £200 XS, just in case!

Car should be back a week Fri (15th May) hope all is ok.

Car picked up on Fri, all is good. A really good job, even replaced windscreen (Small stone chip) without need to pay XS.
