Morning everyone, hope your all well, lovely snowy day here in Inverness!!
So I have a question today, well 2 actually..... first, my car is due it’s B1 service, I’ve been quoted 2 different prices from dealerships. So how much did yours cost & from where???

also should I wait till my paint job is done or get it serviced beforehand, bearing in mind it’ll be sitting for 6 weeks at least in the paint shop??

Also I bought it last year second hand and it hasn’t been to a merc dealer for anything since 2016, so should I go to merc or a far cheaper but very reliable alternative?

oopppss that’s more than 2 questions, but thanks you guys!

My personal opinion and probably not that of other members would be to have the service done now at the cheapest main dealer in your area. i think that would then stand you in good stead when the paint job is done.

Just my thoughts

Thx for your response hun. So you’d def go to a Mercedes dealership then not a cheaper private garage?

Hi Claire, It would depend on the mileage, and age of the car and who will be doing the paint job.
Using a dealership will update the service record and you will get the Mobil breakdown service for the next year.
If you are not concerned with that then a good alternative would be the cheaper option.

Using a Mercedes dealer might mean getting the diesel software update that appears to be on the go. For that reason alone, I would go elsewhere.

hiya, thx for replying, it’s a 2013 with 55,000 miles on the clock. The paintwork is being done at some stage by my local Mercedes Bodyshop.. I just wondered should I get the service by the merc garage or go elsewhere much cheaper really. It’s not had a merc garage work on it since 2016, ive only had it a year.

Hiya Roger, thx for your reply, I have a 2013 C220 AMG, it’s not had any work done in a merc garage since 2016, and I have had her a year. 55,000 on the clock. She’s going at some point to my local merc Bodyshop for a respray due to the lacquer issue with the OFR paint issues! I just wondered should I go to merc or a cheaper reputable garage for the service due to being quoted 2 different prices for the same work in 2 different merc dealerships. thsnks again. C xx

As I said, there will be many opinions on your dilemma. How different is the cheapest MB quote opposed to your indy?

I would still use the cheapest MB option

I would see if you can find a reputable independent specialist near you. Most specialists can update the digital service book, use genuine parts and know the vehicles inside out so same job but much less £££!

I was quoted £460 (16 months ago) from Mercedes Benz of Glasgow for a B service on my W204.

I obtained the quote online via the Mercedes website (purely out of curiosity, as I have the monthly service care plan which covers the costs).

Thank you so much for your reply, I didn’t know you could get a quote online..... I may just try that myself now too. Do you have to give your details?

You will need to enter your reg, milage and location:

Mercedes-Benz Online Service Booking Application

I just put mine in and this time a B service is only £380 for Glasgow! Or £350 for another main dealer near there.

Perhaps I should use a more central location other than Inverness... maybe try Glasgow or Edinburgh!! Might get a better deal than Inverness.
Thank you

That's a long way to go for a service! Although, worthwhile purely to avoid Arnold Clark.

That’s the unfortunate thing about Inverness Mercedes, they do come with Arnold Clark attached!!
I spend a lot of time in the Edinburgh area anyway so may just check it out!

Beware the "Extras" not included in the standard price of a B service from MB. 2013 car so 6-7 years old. Extras not included in the normal price are brake fluid change every 2 years, fuel and air filters every 4 years, also I believe there's a combination filter that is part of the AC/ventilation system that needs changing every 4 years. Hope you've got the previous service invoices so you can see when each was last done. Nearly forgot - also look in the records for an ATF fluid and filter change that should have been done at 37.5k miles/5 years old, if that hasn't been done it needs doing, and needs to be the full gearbox and torque converter change, not just the (quicker and cheaper) gearbox only - but at least I believe your car has a TC drain point so not quite as difficult as other models (203 series for example). ATF change and refill has to be correctly done - fluid at correct temperature and correctly filled, bit more complex than an oil change on the engine!

If you're missing early records, MB should be able to print you the records - preferably service invoices rather than what they keep on the digital service record, I got that with my SLK and it's almost illegible and only records certain items!

Thx for all that, kinda blown my non mechanical mind. I have no service history, the garage I bought it from wouldn’t give it to me for legal reasons as it had previous owners address on it etc..... all I know is it hasn’t been to a merc garage since 2016....
