Time is fast approaching for the next service on my W176 A Class & I'm considering replacing the air filter with a cotton performance style air filter rather than the paper style Mann one, does anyone else have a cotton air filter fitted to their car ?

Looking at this one

What's wrong with the paper ones that the engine was designed to use and would theses really improve horsepower and acceleration? If they did why don't manufacturers fit them? Any evidence on their claims?

Guess what Ferrari and Lambourghini use ?

There is evidence of improvement and no improvement videos .

But what all so called performance filters do is let more dust through as they're more open structure in an attempt to flow more air .

Nowt wrong with Mann

Cotton filters are nice, but they're a "Look at this" option, expensive to buy, and mucky to service, I really wouldn't bother. Also as the airflow would be different, would the ECU mind ?
