Does anyone know of any Independent MB Specialist in or near Oxford?

Hi,

I'm new to Oxford and have just bought a used MB car. Could anyone who lives in Oxfordshire please kindly recommend a good reliable mechanic that you've been using for your MB car?

When I lived in Bicester, I used Parkham Garage in Wellingborough. I know it's in Northamptonshire, but, to be honest, could not find anyone in Oxfordshire! A very comprehensive B service on my C270 cost me just shy of £350. He also found the reason why my wheels vibrated so much too!!! And sorted it for a third of the price of an MB garage.

I would also use the 'Search' facility on the forum as that can throw some answers up too.

I'm not sure where you are in Oxfordshire, but Caversham (near Reading) contains two Mercedes specialists; John Griffiths and Star Motors, the latter I have used recently and can recommend.

Also, you're not too far away from the Tony Purslow group of dealers. These guys are very good and are very well regarded in the MB community. That's where I get the servicing on both my Mercedes and my Smart done.

Hi Michael, the answer to how much servicing is would depend on your car, and if I may make the assumption its not a very new Mercedes, then it will probably need work in addition to the regular service.

I have used Stratford Upon Avon Dealer. A bit of drive but the best Main dealer service I have had to date. My cars booked in for next weekend for service, and they have put a car to one side for me.

Last time I just went in for headlight adjustment, and they washed and cleaned the car including inside, and a free health check. Cost £45 inc, was most impressed. Very helpful as well with any queries..

just check their labour rates! .. Not the most dilligent service IMO. If you want an Indie as per your original question who charge less see my post above

had service contract so didn't pay anything, they did code my command and xenons, and adjust them for free. Nice courtesy car on occasion too.

They certainly improved over the three years I have been using them.

I have had a few customers from the Oxford area. It seems that people are willing to travel and it still amazes me that they come to see little old me.

I have spoken to Star Motors and they know their mustard!

Dependant on where you live in Oxfordshire I can recommend Robin Lamb Garage, Bristol Rd Gloucester, 01452 500808 fantastic service, really knowledgeable and very friendly, good rates lots cheaper than MB.

All Robins workforce are MB tecnicians and not young guys they know their stuff.
All he deals in is MB vehicles (not HGV) no sales, no paintwork but he can advise though.

If servicing is all you guys need in Oxfordshire then I know and exceptional guy near Banbury, He is Renault and BLMC (don't laugh) trained and been independant for over 25 years. He has looked after my vehicles for over 20 years, and he now drives his own Mercedes !!!

We are working on electronic diagnostics between us, but this is more for us rather than for customers.

I think the best thing I can say about him is this.....

When I've had problems with vehicles he has always been honest, told me what he knows and doesn't know, told me if problems are real problems or if they won't cause an issue for some time. If you drop by and need a bulb replacing, that'll get done straight away. Don't say I said this but if you offer him a few quid for the staff tip box he probably won't charge you !

Anyway PM me for details, it'd probably be best for me to do an introduction for you, happy to do this.

Interestingly (or not...) our new (to us) E270CDi is saying it would very much like a C+ service in the next 800 miles or so. This sounds ominous....should I be planning a win on the lottery to cover it?

I'd also like to hear from anyone who used Ernigrip. I've seen them recommended on several websites but there's nothing like straight from the horse's mouth. The only recommendations online I can find are here which are indeed very positive...
