I've been thinking about ML270s as a future purchase for quite a while. It's a car I've always liked since I saw it as the AAV concept all those years back and in The Lost World :o. I've seen a few on Cat C/D which I reckon are easily sorted for sensible money.

The internet suggests that they're marmite cars with wildly varying reviews.

So the big question is could you recommend one?

Hello

I would yes, I have a ML350 but its sort of the same bar the engine, I would however if you can get a faclifted (pre 2001) mirrors in indicators.

Mine also an inspiration so some nice bits added over and above standard. Look out for the family pack, seven seats opening rear windows as it seems to add value...

Cheers, it's the later ones I've been looking at, they seem to be a bit better from what I've read.

YES YES and YES.

I've had mine for 3 years now and love it.
I do a lot of miles with my job (1000+/week) in the company Octavia but driving the ML is like sitting in a very nice arm chair.
I bought mine to replace a 12 month old Freelander (crap). and have never looked back.
She has never let me down and looks fantastic.

Get and good one and you will be very happy.

Go get one.

From what everyone says, the post facelift one are quite good, did try to convince my Wife into buying one for her father, but she didn't like the shape, so we bought a Volvo XC90 instead.

I had my 320 petrol w163 for three and a half years, the longest time I have ever kept a car.
I loved it, no major problems, sold it to a neighbours parents nearly three years ago, with 107k miles on it, they still use it to tow a caravan around Europe.

The very early cars did have some quality issues that were sorted by the time of the facelift. That set the tone for the car's reputation.

Then when the hoard of other premium SUVs came along they opted for a more road orientated set up which the motoring press much preferred, which then nailed the cars reputation.

We've had ours for 5.5 years having bought it almost new, and it's been a great car. We've had plenty of time to change our mind!! :D

The catalysts were replaced at 12 months old - under warranty - which were hellishly expensive.

At 4 years old it had quiet a lot of work done for the MOT - a couple of ball joints, weaping damper, a broken spring and maybe one or two other smaller bits - which combined with new brakes and a B-service with additional items an expensive trip to the dealer!! All covered under service plus.

Final thing to look out for are rust on the inner edge of the wheel arches and around the release leaver on the tailgate next to illuminating lamps for rear number plate.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one with good history - providing that you don't expect to handle other than a big heavy 4x4 with a ladder frame chassis!!

Beautiful car, it really is easy to drive for something this big and heavy.

Im having to sell mine as I need a bigger boot for two large prams (I've got the additional seats fitted to make it a 7 seater.

If anyone is interested, let me know.
